Recently upgraded cable package, now P=5 S=0 spm=13610
« on: February 06, 2007, 03:45:07 am »
I recently upgrading my cable package. Ever since, my S=0, always.
Uploads and downloads connect, never reach great speed (under 5.000 k/s) and then hang out at zero and disconnect! Or if they do stay connected for longer, the speed isn't stable. I should be able to u/l and d/l MUCH faster than this since I'm paying more now for better speed  :x.

Does this have anything to do with S=0, and also are there any ways to fix this.

I think we might be looking at throttling here. As your uploads and downloads start and then fizzle out....
It is any better on secondary?

Cheers :P

P denotes the number of primaries you are connected to amd s senotes the number of secondary users connected to you....

Can you upload or download at all?

Cheers :P

And are your speeds ok?
I mean about 10~15k per upload and or download?

If yes, then you are ok.
The s number will increase after sometime... don't worry about that. There is a delay in directing users to a primary user so that secondaries are not issued to unstable primaries....

Cheers :P

Java Bean,

Love that name, welcome to the site

You are on Shaw Cable and I hate this because you just upgraded and probably did so inorder to get more life out of p2p but Shaw Cable are one of the worst companies on this earth for throttling WinMX, and a few others.  What your describing is definatly what they are doing to you.  We have been dealing with customers of theirs for a long while Shaw/Rogers and its always the same ..

When folks call about this they are generally lied to at first as well, that alone should tell you how underhanded this activity is, if they cant even be honest about it.

My best advice if your a serious p2p'er is to call Sympatico and see about switching over.

Just so everyone knows S= are the secondary users that your supporting as a Primary.  That is how the RIAA aka Macrovision connects to you to upload fake files and its what the WinMX Group patches are meant to do.  Keep those slots open on your system for real users.. Those numbers will change and fill up some as your online longer.  As long as your searches, channel list, and uploads are working then S=0 is fine.

Me Here,

is there a website you could direct me to to check out Sympatico's rates/plans.

I should also mention that this is only happening with Winmx; BitComet runs 150%, as does eMule. Why only Winmx?? If there is any way around this, I would love any suggestions - I JUST switched a few days ago..   :(

Java.Bean:
I don't have an exact url for you I just know lots of users that have made that switch and decided on Sympatico in the Canadian areas.. I encourage you to do some research tho before deciding what to do.  If other things are running fine then great..then a rash decision is not a good idea of course.

Why WinMX?  Because they can, its fairly vulnerable to this type of throttling and a very popular way to transfer files.  Most of the folks I have met with this issue and Shaw also had the problem with Bit Torrent so Im glad its working for you now.. but I would have to wonder for how long before they start that in your area also?  Its a valid question and by then is it too late to make a move.. things to consider also.

here is another post and rather then duplicate it I'll link here to it.. its got further reading .. which mostly pertains to Rogers Cable but keep in mind they and Shaw are one in the same.

Basically Java what I want you to know is there is more then likely nothing that can be done to fix WinMX at this time, I wanted also to empower you with a bit of knowledge about your ISP in relation to how they treat p2p traffic, and just to keep you from raking your head, I know this can be frustrating to diagnose and messing forever with settings trying to fix, over something you have no control.  What you decide should ultimately be up to you.

I found this interesting so have Edited this post to include this link also, hope this helps you too Java.Bean.

Do let us know how you get on and what you decide to do.

Plumberboy61793:
I would suggest if those are the types of speeds your always getting while downloading that you might try secondary and see if this doesnt help you.  Alternatively you may want to throttle uploads and see if this help.  Instructions and a Speed test for best settings can be found here:
https://www.winmxworld.com/scripts/bandwidth/
Please do this with WinMX OFF For best results.
