I have experimented with adding new video files to the network after years of sharing but not adding.
converted a video file via Videoredo and ended up with a good presentation of my subject in mpg but at 1.55 GB a bit to large to share for 70minutes of video.

Converted again using the DIVX converter and ended up with a file half the size. No problem played in various media players, quite pleased with myself.
Problem could not get winmix to recognise the two files I processed through the DIVX converter but no problem with the mpg fro videoredo.
Can you advise (In simple terms). What is the best way to convert to reduce file size but be seen with winmix. Gordian knot maybe? I don`t know.

Hi Tonyd,
well the 1st thing is to make sure the file type is listed in your WinMX, on the library page, click settings button and look at the list to see if your file type is there and add it if needed, you should see:-
Video (.asf .avi .mpg .mpeg)

option 1, highlight and click edit to add pother file types in the relevant places

option 2, zip or rar them into zip or rar archives, easy to store and u/l & d/l

unless anyone has a better idea?

see that's where you loose me "pather". do you mean the DIVX or XV id added to the Video (.asf .avi .mpg .mpeg)
In other words would it look like this Video (.asf .avi .mpg .mpeg .DIVX .XVID)
For my understanding is DIVX is an avi.file so why does winmx not recognise it?

oops sorry it was a typo error as i neva get peace & quiet wen im on the pc everyone wants me for something in room or msn, some are silly people that just want to moan he said she said stuff.

in many cases i have seen files encoded with the divx codec using the extension divx, no idea why, just rename it to avi and it's fine... if that's the case then that would be why winmx is not seeing it
