WinMX Seems to pick and choose (Says my mum)

Hi.. you all know me.. and by now you should all know that i know how to configure WinMX correctly ect ect..

heres my problem..

On my mums winmx she has several files that seem to que endlessly( There are quite a few sources), when its her turn they all time out

Yet, if i was to select any other file with lots of sources it will download without ANY issues,

My mum seems to think im doing something to stop them downloading.. i tell her.. the router is fine and if one file will download they all should and its down to the other winmx user and not her winmx...
 
now im faced with threats that if i dont get her winmx to download the files she wants, she is gunna disconect the internet

for my my own and my mums clarifacation... could you confirm what i said is correct or offer me any help with regards to this issue...

I think its the users on the other end. Its happened to me a few times. Just deleted them and tried other files/sources.

hello james. sorry your mom isnt having a good experience on winmx. i think it's one of the best out there. i have been using winmx many years with no problems. will continue to use it unless it dies. also keep in mind i'm not techy like most of the people in the help room,but i'm not dumb either. sometimes things i say don't come across the way i intended them to so hopefully it will make sense lol. computers and the internet aren't perfect. there are so many variables that can cause your mom's issues and applies to any p2p. it appears to me though that your set up is more than likely correct. if it wasn't you wouldn't be able to chat or have up and downloads. (more variables lol)based on the spec you gave me on your mom's pc it's more than capable of running winmx and other programs as well and still have breathing room. i don't know how all of your pcs are networked,but could contribute issues sometimes based on volume of traffic in the network. i don't know what all is running at the same time blah blah,but say if there are torrents going on along with other stuff on her pc as well as the additon of say 3 other pcs can make a big difference. her pc alone with no others running shoudn't have any problems though. i would have to say myself based on my own problems i have faced and looking in the help room that the problem your mom is having is not on your end. it's probably who she is trying to connect to. getting to just a single pc though...you know depending on how her pc happened to connect on the winmx network can make a difference on what files are available at that specific time she did her searches. winmx doesn't pick and choose what files she gets. the connections/sources you're on can though. when i say that im referring to uplaod managers. some people don't like them and everyone has their opinions of them. i like moni for my own reasons and it's not to keep people from my files. i have multiple reasons,but won't go into them here. you have found that out yourself when you tried downloding off me about a month ago...you told me my uploads were shit. well you couldn't get anything off of me because i was running mxmoni. mxmoni is a very nice upload managing tool and very adjustable. you just happen to have only 10 files in you shares that day. well my moni is set for 60 files. so if anyone  tries to get files from me won't unless they have atleast 60 files shared. that's just one of the parameters in moni that you can adjust. you blindly judged my pc and connection. i have people trying to download off of me that show they have a T1 connection,but are only pulling 56k. well those people get the boot. all they did was change the setting in winmx to T1 even though their really dialup. well you can set moni to also not allow uploads based on the actual dl speed. so im wondering how many people has she connected to that has leech hammer,mxmoni or any other upload managing tool. so i would have to ask is she sharing like files or the volume of files that she is trying to download. some people are very picky about that stuff lol. im not too concerned myself,but enough to set mine for 60. the p2p is no good if people dont share. if she is say only sharing 60 to 100 files she is less likely to get good downloads depending on what she is looking for. sharing say maybe 1,000 files might get her more successful downloads. these numbers are variable based on who you happen to connect to. the best thing to do is try a new source. i have also had instances where the other person's firewall was blocking. we can't always have our cake and eat it too. it does take patients sometimes to get the files you want. rare or obscure files take longer to find. that's the nature of the beast. i have had my share of nasty pms sent to me because winmx just happened to connect to their pc. because i wasn't sharing like files or as many as they were. so they cancelled my download and blocked me even though it wasn't started on their pc lol. i've had my opportunities to blast some back later since they just happen to be downloading off me weeks or months later. interesting how that works lol. those are just some examples. your mom needs to have some patients and learn how winmx works before judging it. that includes any type of file sharing programs. my suggestion would be to have her read some of the things in winmx world if she cares to understand. if she doesn't then too bad for her. there are many things to learn and a lot of nice people to meet around the world in winmx. if she happens to have the i want it now an yesterday attitude hang it up and go to a music shop. otherwise be patient and hunt like the rest of us. my other pc has strictly music from my personal cd or record collection in which i purchased with my hard earned money. yes i said records lol...(vinyl disks lol)  so for anyone to be able to get a download and sample it is lucky...when i find cool music on mx i have never heard of i count myself lucky cuz i probably wouldn't have learned of it otherwise. then you can go but it. there are plenty of files out there. you just have to be patient. sometimes multiple refreshes help. i could ramble forever james,but i dont want to be shot the next time i go in the helproom or have a gag put on me in the forum lol so ima shut up. teach your mom about winmx if she's willing to learn. i would suggest this link first   https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/wpn.html     then maybe she can browse https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/   ...anyway hope that helps some. have a great day and good luck

Ask her to select those files which have many sources, so that picking up someof them later is better and faster
If you mother selects fiels with only 1 source, then it will be a problem to download them later.
Although the file might be good, it will not be easy on a later date....

Well.... I've told her i cant win, ive set everything up good, if she wants to be stupid.. she can go ahead n have it disconected

Now shes looking around for other p2p programs.. (the most popular ones she allready has... and its not good enough)

erm, it's not random files that work, in fact tit's quite predictable from that screen shot exactly what works and what doesn't...

look at the file sizes, she's trying to get large files and they are failing, which typically happens because of the stupid queues etc... and the "random" file that works, is a small 6MB file...

and btw, if you're going to throttle uploads to 2k/s and run primary using 9k/s of upload bandwidth, run secondary instead and use the entire 9k/s for uploading, otherwise stop complaining about all the other people doing exactly what you're doing and not using all their bandwidth to share (causing the queues etc, which in turn are causing that problem)

that comp isnt always on primary.. useually the upload is limited to 5k

random file means.. if i was to pic any file (random SIZEs) small aned large it will download.. km.. u can be such a wiseass lol

Km has a point too, usually, even when you dwonload movies, it's always better to go for "more sources, start later' rather than "open slot and 1 source"

Try different files then of the same thing.... Only one of the red files has actuallly crossed the 10 mb mark...

James can you bring ya mum's PC into the help room and let us try some different things there.. i understand what you saying sorta.. kinda.. and i know your not a Noob.. but sometimes the obvious is harder to see because you do know more about it..

Bring her pc in the help room and let us test some transfers .. make sure hte settings are correct.. you know fresh set of eyes type of thing.. ok?

Then also Id be very interested to know.. What AV, or other protective gear she has running etc..
