Modifying searches
« on: March 29, 2007, 08:12:45 am »
Hi
I wonder if it is possible to modify the search window buttons ( Audio inthis case ) to search for .flac and .ape audio files. I have already used the Settings to alter my Audio button to always search for mp3 at 192 rather than the default, but I can't see any way of making it search for these other types of files. I have set up my Library so that I share .flac and .ape files, so I will be able to see anyone online who has them, but I can't find any way of specifically searching for them or including them in the options in the drop down menu for the search buttons. Thanks

Hi paul99

WinMX does not have those file types 'hard coded' into its programing.  When the program was made they chose the most popular, safest file types of that time and coded WinMX to search for those.

They did however take into account that you could never add 'all' file types, if you have ever looked at media file types you know there are endless lists of them.  So in order to get those others included.. WinMX will do a search for 'Any File/Any bitrate'.  This is the option you'll need to use in order to try finding those specific types of files.

Thanks very much. I had tried that option, but of course it returns simply huge numbers of results for audio files because it includes mp3s at any birrate. It's then impossible to sort them by file type to get to the few ape/flac files that might be amongst them. Using the Any non mp3 option is as bad because it throws up masses of mpegs and rar. zip, jpg etc, which, again, cannot be sorted. Ah well !  :)

In whose case, "any non mp3 file" option will be useful ;)

Cheers :P

Paul try adding this to your search

~flac ~ape

This symbol '~' is an inclusion symbol for serach terms as '-' is an exclusion character..

So it would read

Title/Artist

name here
~flac ~ape
