D/l a newer version of winmx, and now winamp will not open to let me hear while I'm d/ling.

It gives me an error that says, "error initializing".

I reinstalled winamp and no love.

Anyone else have this problem?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place or has already been discussed.

what windows version are you using? & have you tried opening winamp before trying to play the tracks?
something like this happens with win 9x/ME & there's a fairly simple permanent workaround.

When I had the 3.54 B4 version of winmx (prior to 3.0mod upgrade), and I right click to PLAY while downloading an mp3 file, Winamp opened and played the song.

Now with the winmx upgrade, It opens Windows media player when I right click to PLAY.

I can't figure out where this option is set. I want Winamp to play the music.
Per suggestion above, I opened winamp prior to playong the song - winamp still did not play the song - media player opened and played it.

- Operating system                 Windows 98
- Internet connection type         dial up(56k)
- WinMX Version                    (3.54)
- Secondary or primary user      primary (only) user
- What make of firewall you have   none
- Router brand and model           none
- Any WinMX add-ons installed      none

Thanks

go to your winmx incoming files folder select  a mp3 file  right click on it  go to properties ( at the bottom) and you will see a option that says opens with .... click on change and select winamp from the list this should solve your problem

Although this is a little off-topic for this thread, I feel I should bring this to the users attention.
Jane if I am correct in thinking that you are running WinMX as primary on a 56k connection, I must point out how much of a bad idea this is.
In order for WinMX to maintain a stable Primary connection it requires a minimum of 10k downstream and 7k upstream at all times, this is well over what you have available as a dial up user, and I take it you have changed your connection type in WinMX settings in order to do this? This will not only affect your own ability to transfer properly, but will aslo have an effect on the secondarys attempting to connect to you.
You will achieve far better transfer rates as a secondary user on 56k  :D

Be it as it may, I have no upload/download issues or noticeable bottlenecks using winmx for over 1 year.

Well thats good and i'm sure every secondary user that has connected
to you in the past year while your posing as a primary connection, really
appreciate their near non-existant search results    :P
