what format, if mp3 will play in windows media player orthere are probably hundreds of different mp3 players around.

If your in winMX, right click on the file( downloading or complete) and click "play" your default player should show up and play a piece or all of the file. This is also A great tool to check the authenticity of the file your downloading.

For audio winamp is a very good player
For video, Vlc from www.videolan.org is an undisputed king :D

i think winamp is the best video player as well... except for DVDs with the menus etc which it can't handle, but i tend to avoid those anyway as it's basically 10 times the file size because of the rubbish compression used for DVDs, just to keep a few menus...

although to be honest when it comes to a video player, you open the video, it starts playing, it finishes playing, you close it... it really makes little difference to me which player i use, although having a playlist is useful sometimes (like if you have a film that has been cut in half for example)
