Unable to DL files
« on: April 26, 2007, 07:45:09 am »
Lost all my files due to pc crash. Re-installed Winmx v 3.31 with Mxpie patch 3.4 & MxMonitor. File search is ok but having joined any queue, when it gets to my turn the DL times out. I've checked my timeout settings & they're at 90 seconds, I've set the ports as if I'm behind a firewall - and I'm sharing files (not many due to crash) Any ideas out there?

The pie patch is your problem. Most of the files you try to download are fake files, which come up due to flooders. Those files are not real in 99% cases.
If you are on primary, you are allowing flooders to connect to you and attack wpn, by eating bandwidth and flooding search results of other users...

Read more about it here:
Why blocking is needed: https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/fake_file_info.html
How to filter : https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/filtering_fakes.html
Comparasion between pie patch and the winmxgroup patch : https://forum.winmxworld.com/index.php?topic=3598.0.html

At this stage, the only solution (to the fake file problem) is to install the winmxgroup patch.

To solve your problem do this:

Uninstall the pie patch and delete the winmx folder from C>Program files.

Now reinstall winmx from here:
Select the option to install 3.31 if you want that instead of a newer version
https://www.winmxgroup.com/Install-3.0-MultiVer.exe

Any questions, you can ask here or come to the winmxworld helproom

Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

Very many thanks for your response - I've done as you suggested & all seems to be resolved. Pity the rescue of my lost files after the crash wasn't as easy, but that's life. Thanks again,

If you can come into the wmw room, I can give you a few tools that will restore some files atleast.
I don't know for sure from which sites they are avaiable, and I'm too lazy to search for them

I have see them and they seem quite ok...

Come there and wait for me.
BTW, if you are attempting to recover files, then stop loading new ones. Sometimes, it's possible to recover the, despite even a format.

Cheers :P
