Making Windows Look Modern
« on: May 04, 2007, 09:22:42 pm »
Hey. I want to make my pc look a bit more modern instead of the old dull look. I currently use Tune Up Utilities 2007 to make it look good. But the visual styles have got boring now as they havent been updated for 2 years! I would like to know if there any other program that can make your pc look modern. Like changing the taskbar and welcome screen. Also the bootscreen. Thanks in advance.

there's loads of stuff out there for customising the look, including stuff to make xp look like vista, i suggest a little time spent with your friend google.

i'd also advise against messing with the boot screen, it's not overly complex to do, but it involves replacing the graphic contained within a system file & breaks windows updates as a result.

Hmm

Thanks.. I have never had a problem with TuneUp replacing it tho.

Does it break if you do it manually?

Well I use WindowBlinds for my skins. It is really good, however, you have to pay for it. Unless of course you download it from WinMX or got a serial from somewhere. Here is the link for the download.

This is where you can get your skins from.

I use this tool for my logon screen. It works really nice and it is free.

Cool, the update problem only occurrs with some updates, service packs in particular, basically ones that involve that system file, it sees it's not standard & stops, just in case it's not standard for good reasons... it will happen regardless if done manually or with tune-up, although tune up may set it back, but why mess with it in any case? it's not like win 98 where systems crashed constantly & you saw it every few hours.. it's often weeks between me seeing my boot screen....

messing with system files routinely is a bad idea.. the modification only has to go wrong once, & in this case your system would be rendered unbootable

Yes i suppose.

Although i did find a few problems with Vista Transformation Pack.

It did infact delete or replace some very important files. So when i uninstalled. It dident replace them. So then. I couldent even access system restore or even my internet! Because of this i put my windows xp disc in and repaired windows. Then everything was ok. So then i reinstalled Vista Transformation Pack and everything was working to my standards until i opened the internet. When i opened the internet. There was 2 of the same toolbars! and when i removed one. The back and forwards buttons and the address bar would dissapear! In the end i fixed it all. But it took me a day to do it.
