upload problems
« on: May 01, 2007, 11:03:59 pm »
Hi, can some one help. I am sharing all my files, but some people can't down load from me, it times out waiting for connection. It was working fine and then one day it just stopped.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled and tried different versions with no luck. I am on Windows XP, I have a Windows firewall and Motorola surfboard cable modem SB5120. WinMX 3.54. I have no problem downloading from others.

Hi, sometimes 1-3 maybe. Connection type dosen't matter. Some times some cable will connect and others won't same with DSL and 28k and the rest.

do you by chance have norton anti virus 2005/6? i found a similar problem if winmx wasn't allowed in the worm protection, if the worm protection was any good it would stop all tranfers, however it used to let some through, which made finding the solution more difficult lol

Damien 1-3 out of 10 users failing sounds not too bad.. which is good news as far as your ISP is concerned.. I would suggest you make some settings changes.

1. Make sure your using the correct patch, it should say 'Patch Operational' in the update bar of WinMX.  If it doesnt you may want to reinstall from this location to be sure.

www.winmxgroup.com

2. Open WinMX Settings > Incoming TCP .. change this to port 1720
3. Open WinMX Settings > In/Out UDP .. change this to 3339
4. Open your XP Firewall settings > exceptions > Highlight the WinMX listed there and click 'Edit'.. change the ports to the above for TCP and UDP.
5. Be sure WinMX is allowed in Mcafee if your using that firewall.  (if you are then you really dont need XP firewall and mcafee both.)
6. Restart WinMX this way and let us know ...

I'm sorry, I've been gone a few days. I will try this, also I misread your first post. I meant that only 1-3 people can download from me at a time if they are lucky.

Close all programs that are connected to the internet including winmx
and click this link https://www.winmxworld.com/scripts/bandwidth/
a test will be done on your connection and will determine what you
your bandwidth should be set to... just follow the further instructions
that will appear following the test. (by closing all programs connected
to the internet a more accurate reading of your connection will be
performed.

I've changed the TCP and UDP to 1720 and 3339 also in the firewall and no change. I can download and so far 1 in 30 users have been successfull to download from me.

Lill in order for those settings to work for you you'll need to make sure you have those same Ports set in any routers, some dsl modems, and firewalls as well.

When you say waiting for incoming connection do you mean uploads or downloads?
Is it all or just some?
What patch are you using?
Have you got a router or DSL modem with a router built in?

Get back with us about those.

The file transfer settings depend.  The first ones on the list are optional.  You will notice the times after  them but they 'DO' have tick boxes.. the last four that allow you to change the times do not have tick boxes and those should be set to at least 300.

Damian, it still sounds like this could be down to the ISP.  I would suggest you go to the help room located on WinMX.

Click on the Chat button on WinMX, say yes at the prompt box,  then copy and paste this full name into the bar next to the 'Filter' button.

WinMxWorld.com Help_A06F7657BABE

If no ones around right the moment you enter give a chance to get there.. wait for someone to help test this for you.

THANKYOU FOR YOUR REPLY
I HAVE A  ADSL ROUTER PLUGED IN THE BACK THEY CONNECTED IT WHEN WE GOT BROADBAND  ITS NUMBER IS  DSL 502T
THE WAITING FOR CONNECTION IS WITH MY UPLOADS AND DOWNLOADS I HAVE MANAGED TO GET A COUPLE OF SONGS BUT I HAVE TO WATCH IT All the time other wise it seems to disconnect
I HAVE AVG FREE ADITION WITH ZONE ALARM IT IS SHOWING IT IS LISTENING TO PORT 1720.
THE 5 FILE TRANSFERR BOXES SHOULD THEY BE TICKED AND WHAT NUMBERS DO YOU SUGGEST

ok Lil386,

Here is a guide for your Dlink DSL Modem that shows you how to foward ports to allow for uploads to work correctly.

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DSL-502T/WinMX.htm

Its likely that you will be ok with the firewall you have just allowing WinMX but the ports must be set in the modem.

As for the Tick boxes.. the most important ones are the last four that allow you to set times but have NO tick boxes.. set these to the time of 300.
