If it was because of your friends, then please unshare your files. If you want to do any sharing, please make it sharing your bandwidth as a primary to hold our fragile network togther. If you can't run primary and must run secondary, then feel free to share files, but only those you have an express legal written right to share. Local bands are a good source for lots of quality undiscovered music by talented musicians and many will give permission to distribute their files. Open source software, freeware with a licence that permits redistribution, works that are legally in the public domain, your own artworks, tutorials & ebooks written by you, software you coded, etc. are all good files too.

And lets all get together and have group hug!... Rolling Eyes

I am not telling anybody what to do, don't get me wrong. I am just asking everyone to think first and ask yourself why you stayed. Was it files or friends? Now act accordingly.

You have a very introverted sense of sociality. There are really people (now, brace yourself for this) who have a life outside of their favorite chatroom. Those are the people clammoring for a 'fix'. The chat function worked without this fix.

What is your REAL agenda? Let me see...

      1) please don't share files
      2) if you share files, share only legal files
      3) if you share legal files, only do it on secondary
      4) if you feel altruistic, please log on and provide a primary connection.

You, friend sound like an RIAA troll... (and notice, I don't usually type RIAA out loud!)

LMAO really LMAO!

i see all this stuff being printed and advise being offered  but no one is addressing the problem.  If your saying dont share files  the question is really WHY??  if it is about why did you stay,  try dedication and loyalty.  it has really nothing to do with sharing or not.  over 50% of the ppl on winmx do not use chat rooms and are here for sharing only  and that is a case .   but just the same    it takes both to get winmx back to where we were a week ago.  sorry you feel that we should not share , your losing half of the population in winmx because of that.

If you are making a primary connection to the network with the new peer cache and not  blocking the ip's listed&provided by this site, you are hosting the RIAA Denial of Services attack by allowing them to make secondary connections to you. You may experience poor performance due to the e-assault and are also wasting spots for decent file sharing folk[as well as loading their fakefile lists in search, which causes your bandwidth to drop].
To block the ip's, you can use Peer Guardian,Sherwood or make firewall and hosts rules. I am disappointed that they have not turned the flooder software off, afterall they took "winmx" down didn't they? But the attack is stronger than ever with many primary users reporting several fakers persistantly attempting connection to them .I'm sure if I were to host an attack such as they are I would be reported for violating private individual connections.
The new peer caches are working well now and it is fine to connect as secondary and share files now, particilurly if your connection speed is less than 512/256[very minimum for primary]. Secondary connections and filesharing help to stabalize the network.
Many thanks to the winmxworld crew who keep us up to date in style with every aspect of  winmx

I would like to start sharing my files again but is this a safe thing to do? Can your IP address be traced when sharing files using a secondary connection?

This network is set up exactly as it was previous to the fall..

Its decentralized and there is NO centeral server anywhere with any of your IP or DNS information on it.. you are completely safe to share your files.
