Conection using automatic configuration script
« on: May 28, 2007, 07:06:12 pm »
When using my browser I connect to the internet in the following way: on the LAN setting page I select for use automatic configuration script, enter the adress (http ...), and when I enter the browser it asks me for user name and password. However I was not able to set such configuration on WinMx. How can I do it?
Thanks for the help

Sounds like you're connecting via a proxy server.

If you go to Settings > Internet Connection > Outgoing TCP Connections you can put in your information there.
You'd have to know what kind of proxy it is, but it's worth a try.

Alternatively you could run the Setup Wizard again and tick yes when it asks you for a proxy server, then put in your information.

Good luck!

I'd need more details of your setup to advise you accurately, however to connect winmx via a proxy you need it to be a SOCKS 4 or 5 proxy, for which you need the ip, port & login credentials if the proxy requires them, i may be wrong, but i *think* using a proxy also breaks the fake file filtering with the patch(KM will correct me if i'm wrong)

if all you have is an http proxy for web browsing you'll be out of luck i'm afraid

typically running winmx over a proxy gives poor performance at best (though it is possible) if you can, look into getting a direct connection

it's more than likely a corporate network, and if you need to set up a proxy for your web browser this is almost certainly done rather than allowing you access to the internet so that all you can do is access web pages (normally through content filters as well, but sometimes just for logging purposes), in which case you'd be out of luck trying to do anything else except access web pages

in the extremely unlikely event that they do let you use a SOCKS proxy you would have no fake filtering and may take a little longer to connect, make sure the push host names through SOCKS5 proxy is unticked if it's a SOCKS5 proxy you're using

You can use the vista patch then... I believe that might take care of the fakes problem

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)
