« on: June 08, 2007, 01:51:35 am »
WinMX will Connect but I Cannot search or download or upload or chat the problem just started but before i changed firewalls I'm using windows XP Pro SP2, have windows firewall turned off .Using embarqs firewall it looks pretty straight forward as far as allow and denying Using ver 3.5.4.0 of winMX. not on a router at this time but it was working last week all right when i was going through my router.I'm using embarq as my isp . i just got their new 660 dls modem but once again winmx stopped working before then. tried the magic formula which worked back in 05, but does  not seem to help. any helps would be much appreciated sorry about the spelling 8)

http://winmx.dnsalias.com:801/scan.py
check there if you did tiyr portforwarding alright/open.
If ports are blocked, then go to www.portforward.com and see your router model there and forward according to the tutorial on winmx given there...
It is possible that some modems have inbuilt routers in them as well.

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)
Patch link :

Spread the word now :)

Augleo1945,
If you would be so kind as to give me the exact name and model of your modem.. there are not 'embarq' ones listed so, often the case is that ISP's use other more popular models and rename them.  They often do say the original manufacturers name on them somewhere.

You mentioned the magic formula.. that sounds like youve vistied a mx pie room or site.. to be honest that says to me that you've also downloaded and installed thier host file fix.. extremely outdated method of connection and offers you and the network 0 Zero protection.

Please be sure your Patch is up to date.  You should see the words 'Patch Operational' in the update bar of your WinMX, if its blank or says 'Please be patient' then I suggest you reinstall from here
www.winmxgroup.com

Once this is done and installed be sure you also are NOT runnning Peerguardian or PGLite as those have got the WinMX network connection methods (peer caches) blocked.

If you have made any changes its a good idea to remove WinMX from allowed rules in your Firewall and restart WinMX, allowing it to 'ask for permission' again and saying yes.  Sometimes firewalls see a change as a 'hijack' of a program and block it for your protection.

Its quite possible that after doing the above your problem may still persist, so be sure to post back the exact model of your modem and we'll see if we can help you make sure thats configured properly as well.

I'm using a eq 660r adsl router   this was the modem embarq sent me this week. Have installed installed so many times i don't even want to count.  I'm not running pg2 or pg lite.  I have deleted it from my firewall setting and have given permission over and over. it says patch OP. in header this whole lot started last week for some unknown reason. i turned my firewall off no help there either.thank you for the help received so far:_}

Ok Angleo,

Your new modem seems to be the cause of it all.. its not just a modem but also has built in router.. its made by a company called Zyxel.  Here is the guide for it:
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/ZyXEL/EQ-660R/WinMX.htm

If your slightly familiar with routers (having had one) this one is pretty straight forward, you will have to know your LAN IP and that will be different now that your on a new ISP.  If you need better instructions on getting that info we have an excellant guide here:
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/routers_info.html

Of course also if you have questions along the way about this then please post back here..

Do let us know if this fixes your problem for you.

No Augleo that doesnt look right

the IP your using looks invlaid

here is what id like you to do before you give up.. btw.. no you wont need to put in the TCP or UDP.. on the router settings..

Click Start button > Run > in the box type in         cmd
Then click OK
Now a black box appears, in it type this                ipconfig
Now click the Enter key.

Look on the list for an IP address called:  IP Address  This will either start with 192.  or 10.  it will be similar to your 'Gateway Address' but the last digits will be different.

Once you have this IP Address I would like you to go back to your router/modem and change the IP addresss on the rules you have set to match it.  Remember DO NOT use the gateway address use the IP Address listed in the above insturctions.

When you have done this let me know how your doing..

for a start you havent answered any of the questions or instructions put to you..........deleting the peer guardian access rule in a firewall doesnt remove it from your computer, interestingly enough you say your connected on a secondry connection but its still not working, this is because you havent deleted peer guardian from your computer, running as a passive secondry by passes  routers so any port forwading rules are irrelevant even having not set a static internal ip on the computer hosting winmx doesnt matter, thats the whole point of winmx having a passive secondry..........so the reason its still running like crap is either the access rules in a firewall arent correct or peer guardian is still active.......there can be no other cause of winmx running so poorly as a secondry...........
so while winmx is configured to run as a secondry delete any access rules for winmx in what ever firewall you are using.......... as the firewall redetects winmx accessing the internet it wil ask for access rules to be set so set them.............
go to add remove programmes in windows........ start / settings / control panel /add remove programmes........delete any entrys relating to peer guardian..........when that is done go to your c:/ drive programmes  delete any folders relating to peer guardian.........if you have any other junk relating to pie  ie magic formulars etc delete it.............its just rubbish, and does nothing to protect you the user from RIAA or the rest of the cartels goons from harvesting your ip etc and does nothing in helping the network be protected from attacks launched by the cartel and using pie connections to fllood the network with fakes, udp doss and denial of service attacks,........ and if you havent figured it out by now peer guardian doesnt work at blocking RIAA, you never wondered what all those fakes are in your searchs, so much for peer guardian protecting you.................
reboot your computer...........restart winmx as a secondry and make sure your firewall is detecting and allowing winmx to access the internet...........
WinMXWorld.com Help_3575D2CFBABE         please come to this room so we can sort your primary connection and port forwarding rules and your internal static ip out.............its much easier when we can do this in real time instead of thru posts on a forum...........
