Swedish Police Attempt to Abuse Child Porn Filter To Block Pirate Bay

A press release from the Swedish Pirate Party is reporting that the Swedish police are attempting to block access to The Pirate Bay by reclassifying it as a child porn site. ISPs would then be asked to voluntarily block access to all Swedish citizens.

"This is a devastatingly ignorant abuse of the trust relationship between the Internet world and the Police that was created in order to stop child pornography", says Rick Falkvinge, leader of the Pirate Party. "Once given the means to shut down unwanted sites, the Police uses the filter to shut down the Pirate Bay after the failed attempt last year. And just like last year, through abuse of procedure."

According to the latest blog entry for The Pirate Bay's spokesman "brokep", a Swedish police press release states that the decision whether to block this BitTorrent tracker will be made next week.

The Pirate Bay contend that no such content exists on its network. They feel their desperation argument is augmented by the fact that this is a voluntary action, not a criminal investigation.

"Shouldn't they take us down then instead of asking the ISPs to filter us?", brokep wonders

If this sort of corrupt action takes place it will lead to folks taking extreme measures to beat any filtering and therby aid child porn rings in the long run, lets hope the police see this valid danger and act properly in ensuring if their really is CP material as they claim on the pirate bay servers they should surely let the pirate bay know where the heck it is supposed to be located, of course realists amongst us know its not likely that the police have such information as its clear from their actions no such material exist.

Pirate Bay admin Brokep identified some of the key players conspiring against the popular BitTorrent tracker.

First of all the Swedish anti-piracy lobby groups. They stated at an official meeting in Stockholm that child porn could be used for anti-piracy issues.
Or are they so desperate that they are uploading it themselves, so they have an argument to shut The Pirate Bay down? Let’s hope not.

The second key player in The Pirate Bay conspiracy is Stefan Kronquist, who works for the IT-crime section at the State criminal police department. According to TPB admin brokep, Steven is the person in charge of the Pirate Bay case. Brokep adds: “Stefan is probably mad at us for me fighting with them over the Kopimi.com filter entry they admitted blocking wrongfully”.

Last but not least, Thomas Bodström, a former Minister of Justice who’s known for his plans to turn Sweden into an Orwellian state. Bodström was held responsible for the Pirate Bay raid last year, after the US gently pressured him into taking action. “He really hates us and wants to shut us down,” says Brokep. “When the election last year was held we even put up a logo with his face on The Pirate Bay in order to celebrate that he was in the losing side of the election and was no longer a minister”.

It now turns out that this former Minister is closely involved with Internet filtering. As Brokep mentions: “He went on to become the chairman of the board for the group ECPAT, a non-governmental organization that works together with the police in order to control child porn online, one of the big friends over at the child porn department and also one of the big contributors to the child porn filter. Is this just a coincidence? He has personal grudges, political grudges and power to control this.”
