or

http://home.tiscali.nl/winmx/DownLoadz/winmxfix%2520for%2520windows.zip

these  should be the latest as far as i know they should even block file flooders again

top one is the manual one and the second the auto patcher

Hi Scott

Could you please answer a few things for me.

Have you checked the ports in both winmx and router/modem?

Do you have firewalls going?

I would first check my ports. Than I would go to the firewalls and unallow winmx. Than allow them again.

Please let us know how it goes.

My continued battle with WinMx going off line and trying to get my daughter's and my PCs  to function the same as before is blowing me out. I spent all day yesterday getting mine right thinking my daughters was OK  BUT now my daughters PC is playing up with an error report saying ''System 32/host file missing'' etc. Closing this report makes her lose everything as well as disconnects the sound-card as well as other key features fail to respond.WE both get in our anti-virus programs a message saying ''Host file changed" even though it doesn't detect it as a virus I wonder why the hell it appears...
I'll get it all together I know but this latest crisis of winmx has defiantly changed my opinion of what I thought was the best and only file sharing program.
I love to have a whinge  and  I still and always will LOVE WinMx.

The new patch modifies your Windows hosts file when you launch WinMX, and again after you close WinMX.  This is now normal behavior, and the change it makes to your hosts file is minor and should not affect any other aspect of your computer or Internet connection.

Your anti-virus software will bark at you because programs typically don't need to change the hosts file, but in this case the change is harmless and it is safe to allow WinMX to do so every time.

Hello,
I have a big problem. The patch will not finish installing for me. It tries to make a windows directory on Drive C: and I don't have my hard drive set up as C:. Is there any way around this?

HI Mishii

Try it this way.

1. go to were the file is
2. left click on the file
3. go to run as
4. it may come up who u want this available for
5. click ok
6. it should come up with a screen say installing WMW patch
7. click on next
8. you should see a destination area. change that to where you have winmx
9. click next
10 . let file run
11. open winmx

I hope this has helped. Please let us know if it hasn't.

Unfortunately, it's still not working.  :( The installer will let me pick the destination drive, but I keep getting "Windows No Disk" errors. Finally, I get a error that tells me that the program can't set up a directory on C:.

just drop the attatched dll in your winmx program folder, if you've added an entries in your hosts file redirecting winmxgroup, remove them, should be fine

Hello all,
Is there a latest sticky posted about newer patches available for WMX? I have never had a problem connecting on primary except for tonight. I even tried secondary and the yellow flashed forever! My ports are all correct - checked port forwarding last week.
I am running WM v. 3.53 and all has been great, until now :(   I have Win XP sp2, IE6, XP firewall on, Avast anti-virus on, Peer Guardian 2 and MXpie Patch. Any ideas on what I should check/update? Thanks...

has links to the latest recommended patch which has distinct advantages over the pie/peerguardian combination
the blocking is more efficient (you don't need to run a whole separate program for it)
i's more accurately targetted at those attacking winmx
it's more effective at the user level, because it also blocks those fake search results we're being flooded with
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for he shall not be disappointed.

Hi Madkatz1

Have a look at the information page link under the downloads to see how we have changed the cache indexing system to try to make sure this doesnt happen again..
