Transfering files
« on: July 27, 2007, 03:30:15 pm »
Please try to overlook my ignorance here. I used to use Limewire and when MP3's were downloaded, they automatically were sent to Windows Media Player. When I download MP3's on WinMX, they don't even go to the library. When I right click on the transfer and tell it to "Play", it doesn't do anything. What am I doing wrong? :? I need these to go to WMP so I can put them on an MP3 player.

they'll all be in your incoming files folder (click button on transfers screen) you can then move them anywhere.. as to right click & play (or open) the actions taken are configureable in settings under file launching, choose play on the dropdown  & set the command so they open with the player of your choice (most people use winamp it seems)

Hi TD

Welcome. and I think if you choose "open" instead of "play" in the Transfer Window
It May Play The mp3

Thanks for attempting to help but there must be many settings that are wrong in my computer. When I click on "Open", it opens with Notepad which isn't going to cut it. I've gone through the tutorials and the setup wizard that helps after installing WinMX but I didn't see anything about this kind of problem. I'm starting to feel like I'm the only one.

Hi Gtanse

When you look at the files at the end does it say .ini or does it say .mp3?

If it says .ini you can right click and go in and change the file name to .mp3 instead of .ini

also make sure the file opens with windows media player or the media player you are trying to use.

other wise come into winmxworld help through winmx. You do this by clicking on chat and putting winmxworld.com in your addy section.

Good luck and please let us know how you go.

Sometimes, some players won't play a certain file which winmx is currently downloading. Try winamp and see if that solves the problem

Cheers :P

hi gtanse,

I'd be very curious to know what file types these are we are talking about..

Usually its simply a case of following Bearded's post above and setting the files to use your default player when opening or playing.  So Im wondering if maybe these are other file types such as mp4 or something like *.wma files that are not on the list in the File Launching > Play (from drop down box) > file extention list.  Add the file type there if its not already.

Let us know.

Files that are actively being transferred are on the Transfers page.. click that button then look at the lower section to see the uploads (files from you to others) .. if you are wanting to have files that have finished either failed or completed viewable for longer times (by default WinMX will clear these in a certain time frame) click on Settings > File Transfers and untick the upload options to set them to be manually cleared when you want to, rather then clearing off automatically.
