hi, i have been using winmx for a long time now, after the crash in 2005, i was so glad that i could get the connection back up by changing the host file. until recently when my connection failed around may, i can't seem to get it back up anymore. i've checked most of the related topics on this forum, googled the problem, but can't seem to find anything that works.

i went to this website (https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/connection.html) recommended by you all for connection problems, and i've downloaded them all and tried all four solutions, but still doesn't work. i even tried the PieAutoUpdater program, doesn't work either. changed host files, doesn't work too. so right now, i really dunno what to do anymore, but to hope that you guys can help me out.

i'm running on secondary connection, because: outgoing TPC connection use proxy server, no TCP ports for incoming connections, and no UDP port for incoming and outgoing packets. for all that matters, i have wireless connection through a router with cable internet connection, and i have norton installed with firewall on (but i can't switch it off cuz i can't find any ways to access the program anymore so i can't change the setting, the program now auto-runs itself when i log into windows and will do liveupdate by itself from time to time, i dunno what happen.) oh and i'm using winXP.

hopefully, someone can help me figure out how to connect back to winmx again! thank you! :)

Im going to go out on a limb here and say that if we cant gain access to the control panel for Nortons firewall and allow WinMX its going to be useless to get it working.. the first thing we need to do is fix that problem.

Im not as familiar with Nortons but there must be a way to access it through program files ? or .. maybe you have to contact Nortons about it if your paying for this and the updates they should help you get it working..

if you can't open norton AV from the system tray (like the tutorial) you can open it from the menu, from that point onward the tutorial is accurate

I feel you  pain sounds alot like my issues . still working on it though lol . If i figure anything out i'll let ya  know . Not much  help   i know

i had a problem with norton stopping me connecting once so i started winmx with it turned off connected then turned it back on and had no probs after that ( well except any  norton after 2005 was a general pain in the ass anyway so i got shot of it lol )
you might also want to check the xp firewall isnt auto starting (as it tends to randomly from time to time) as this could also be causing problems
