More UK News - Broadband Speeds

Folks it seems that on average if your a broadband user your getting about a third of the speed that you read about in the sevice advertising.

There is a huge gap between advertised broadband speeds and the actual speeds users can achieve, research has shown.
A survey by consumer group Which? found that broadband packages promising speeds of up to 8Mbps (megabits per second) actually achieved far less.

Tests of 300 customers' net connections revealed that the average download speed they were getting was 2.7Mbps.

Which? has called on regulator Ofcom and Trading Standards to launch a fresh investigation into UK broadband.

Whilst I,m sure most DSL users are aware of the speed drop increasing with the distance from the suppliers exchange it does come as a suprised that its so widespread, what speeds will we be getting from the proposed 24MB connections ?

Hm, i am with Virgin Media, i recently went from 4mb to 20mb, i dident notice a increase in speed when i was on 20Mb. Although i was uploading alot faster. I was not satisfied for what i was paying. so now i'm back on 4mb.

When NTL turned to Virgin Media, i got upgraded from 2mb to 4mb for free, and do not pay anything more than i used too.

I think Virgin Media could do with more speed choices anyway, there is only 2Mb, 4Mb, and then 20Mb.
