Hello Del.

Are you on a primary or secondary connection? If primary, did you forward ports in your router/modem? If secondary, do you have the options for ports Enabled? You can check to see if they are enabled by going to:

Settings > Incoming TCP Connections and In/Out UDP Packets. If you are secondary make sure those are both set to Unable. If you are on primary, please go to http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm and find your router. Then find the program WinMX and follow the steps.

You may also want to check your firewalls to see if WinMX is still allowed though them.

what firewall do you have running ?
you could try turning off whatever one it is and starting winmx to see if it connects this will tell you if it is your firewall blocking if it connects without the firewall off  turn the firewall back on and you should get a allow msg appear
if this is not the case post what firewall here and someone will be sure to help
also if you are running a external firewall you might like to check the o/s firewall is not  running as well (a common thing with xp it auto starts randomly at times & after updates)

if your o/s is xp go to start >>>> control pannel>>>> security center   and you can see if its running click on the firewall option to turn off if you have another firewall installed

You can visit this tutorial, and it should give you instructions on how to allow WinMX through them.

http://winmxworld.com/tutorials/firewall.html

Just go to that page and at the bottom there is a list of firewalls. Select the one you are using, and follow the guide. If you have any more questions, I or one of the other staff, are there to answer them.

hi...my operating system is vista home premium. i went into the control panel, and checked winmx to allow the program through the firewall. i also checked the firewall in mcafee, but the firewall setting is set very low already. i still can't connect, and have no clue what else to do.

when i clicked on that link, it said there is no site there. i finally got winmx to connect yesterday, by going in the control panel and allowing the program through the firewall. today, i can't get it to connect. i even tried turning off the firewall, rebooting, and it still won't connect. what the heck is the problem?
