Need Help
« on: September 12, 2007, 02:02:29 am »
Previously I was able to make a primary connection.  This past week we changed from DSL to Cable for our internet service.  Consequently we have a new router.  I followed all the directions at the port forwarding site, including creating a static ip.  I can make a primary connection but nothing will download and nothing will upload.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi CoachBrobb

Ok 2 things I would like at are

1.the firewalls that you are using are allowing winmx through it.

And

2.In your router do you have a firewall? Sometimes firewalls in routers can be funny. So turn is off and see what happens when you run primary.

Please post back and let us know.

I have the windows firewall and it is set to accept WinMX.  I also have the router firewall disabled and still while I can make a primary connection all downloads and all uploads time out.  Search brings nothing and no chat room list will load.

Hi CoachBrobb

Can you please look at your setting of UDP and TCP in winmx and make sure they are the same in your router.

As one number incorrect can cause a few issues

Ok mate could you please try different ports. Maybe a 1 infront of what numbers you are using.

Also another thing is you may have a number that needs to be put into the router. Can you please make sure they are the same in your computer.

By doing this you will need to go start, accessories, command prompt, type in ipconfig.  You will see 3 different addys. The one you will need to use for your router is IP addy. Make sure the allowances are the same in your router.

PLease let us know how you are going.

to be honest Brobb
sorry for butting in, but the standard XP firewall is designed to allow incoming monitoring, like microsoft & isnt very good at stopping intrusions either, but its very good at stopping outgoing programs even when you give access,

i would trust your routers firewall & turn OFF the XP one, then see what happens.
the router firewall will give you better intrusion protection & allow you outgoing to your requirements.

CoachBrobb,

Might I ask what router you have now.. as some models have room for small errors in configurations that might cause this for you?

If you could give me the name and model of your router and I'll have a look at that for you..

ok hun sorry its taken me all day to get back to the site stuff.. had some things going on.. So

First thing we need to do is make sure that you have set up a static IP.  Linksys is famous for changing IPs when you reboot and it may not happen for a month then boom its changed and breaKs your rules you set up.

Go here and set up the static as per these instructions:
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/static_ip.html

Once this is done and with that Linksys i Highly suggest also that while you do this you use an IP address for your Computer that is slightly higher then ones it would norally give out.  For example with a Linksys you may want to use 192.168.1.110   normally it would use 100-103 or so depending on how many PCs use that router.

OK now that you have that set up Im going to assume you take my advice and use 192.168.1.110 for your IP and show you how the rules in the router should look.

Application          start               end               Protocol                IP address               enable
WinMXtcp           6699              6699             TCP                    192.168.1.110             check
WinMXudp          6257              6257              UDP                   192.168.1.110             check

THen apply.

You will need to make sure that if your using XP firewall you have ports set in this also.  You can do that by going to Control panel, Firewall icon, open click on exceptions
Highlight WinMX on the list and choose 'Add Port' do this for each port.

Also make sure that these are the ports you have set up in WinMX > Incoming TCP set to top option and port number 6699
In/Out UDP > top option and port number 6257

If you make any changes to WinMX settings restart it .. post back and let me know how your doing.

Its also very important to mention here that your absolutely sure you have the filtering/blocking patch located at:
 https://patch.winmxconex.com/

This has Patch Online        For help visit: WinMXWorld.com            in the update bar of WinMX, if you dont see this or are unsure please reinstall this using Set up For Existing installs found on link above to get it installed and get you protected.
