When we started this site many moons ago, the idea of allowing guests to post was brought up, and I was dead set against allowing it. I have been a member of other boards and have seen this allow for too much abuse and misleading posts.
Still, we originally decided that it would be best to allow folks to post as guests, after all we had just a tiny flicker of a hope that the site would ever be what it is today, a busy thriving community for WinMX Help, until we had a user base higher then 5 ppl.. LOL more like around 500 we would re-evaluate that policy.
At that time was very close to when Frontcode shut down and we decided at that time that due to the need to keep users informed and helped the best we could that its best to continue to allow guest posts.
Well things are really big around here now, and I always am astounded at the amount of registered users we get, knowing full well they didn't have to register, they did that for their own reasons and it wasn't to use the site, however, with so many users now using the site and with the amount of folks that come around for news and such.. well its like anywhere and we get folks that want to cause disruption.
By allowing guest posts we are also unable to successfully ban those users from the site, as most folks these days know how to use proxies to get around this. For this reason as of today and for the next 30 days we are disabling guest posts in all sections. After this time we will re-evaluate this and more then likely enable guest posts in only certain sections of the site like help.
