New patch causing WinMX to crash
« on: October 06, 2005, 11:34:43 pm »
Hi. I'm posting on behalf of my sister because she knows bugger all about computers and I'm tring to help sort out her problem.

Basically, the problem is pretty much in the title of the post. I talked her through installing the new hosts file (worked fine) and I talked her through installing the new patch and WinMX 3.54. Unfortunately, whenever WinMX is opened it crashes with a runtime error.

She is using:

WinXP (probably service pack 1)
DSL
WinMX 3.54
I'm not sure what brand router she is using and I don't suppose it is relevant in this case.

Anyone else experienced this problem? Any ideas?

Lord, sorry for the troubles but yesterday yes we did have many ppl experience error when starting WinMX using the .dll... .

The cause was it contains a built in block list and when our site here was down it was unable to update that list and refused to start winmx.

We have since corrected that problem and would ask that you install the updated (oct. 6th) patch from the same location as the original.. linked on our homepage.

This should keep it from happening again...

thanks..

That would explain this post on another site.

"If you installed the winmxgroup.com ws2_32.dll file

They are currently having an issue. Something they expect to have resolved.

In the meantime they, and myself are suggesting that you remove the ws2_32.dll from the winmx folder."

I had no problems with the old one and have since updated and reconnected fine.   Thank you.

the old one should work fine as long as the server is online, but if (should i say when?) the server fails again you'll notice the difference :-)
