I think that avast considers winmx a virus. After you install winmx get avast to allow or ignore winmx. :)

Raven is correct SoultoSoul your not the onl yperson to have this happen with Avast,

You can open the program from the icon near the clock right click and choose program settings...

Now click on Exclusions and and browse to the WinMX.exe file and choose that should be in C:\Program Files\WinMX\Winmx.exe  and this should tell avast to ignore it.  Its also a good idea while your there to add the Settings.dat file as my avast often thinks this is a 'microtrojan' and it is not.  Its simply the nature of the file to keep changing while you use WinMX..

You can also put a check beside the entire WinMX folder in program files if you like while your doing this.. it should clear this up for you.

Post back and let us know

ok Soul Im not sure why your Avast is having such fits so here is my plan 'b'...

I want you to get this file from the archive and install it, its WinMX 3.53 unpatched in installer and it should install fine.

httpss://archive.winmxworld.com/WinMX/WinMx%20Releases/winmx353.exe

Now this wont connect, its an upatched version.  You may also prefer to have WinMX 3.54 beta 4 (which was never officially released in an installer) If you want that version instead here is how we do that:
Make sure WinMX is off.
Get this file and save it to the Computer.
httpss://archive.winmxworld.com/WinMX/Beta/3.54%20betas/winmx354beta4.zip
Unzip it to your newly created C:\Program Files\WinMX folder and when it asks 'Would you like to overwrite the file that is already there' say Yes.

That all done means you now have an unpatched WinMX in your Program files folder.  Now to patch it and make it connect do this
Get this file which is the Patch by itself:
https://patch.winmxconex.com/oledlg.dll

Save this file to the folder in Program Files with the winmx.exe file and other mx related files.  Then restart WinMX and let me know how this went..

If you still have problems with Avast post me that info and we'll get this sorted one way or another if we have to shut the av down while you install and reboot to turn it back on...
