Connected but no searches and time outs
« on: October 26, 2007, 09:17:31 pm »
Hello, According to WinMX I'm connected but everyone times out when trying to upload from me.  Plus when I do a search I get these really small searches usually from only one or two people.  I would appreciate any help on this.  I have forwarded my ports as suggested in other posts.  Running win xp with a linksys routher and acitontec modem on a home network.  Yes the computer has a static IP address.  I have also downloaded the recent WinMX patches. Help.

Hi Clearisa

Try allowing and alowing through your firewalls.

Also with the patch you are on it make sence for you to get less search results when searching. As the patch is filtering out the fact files.

Please post back and let me know how you go.

Yeah it is allowed through my firewall, but no change in connectivity, still times out.

Hi Clearisa

Please try changing your ports to see if that is going to help.

Please post back and let me know how you get on.

I've tried different ports the 6699 and 16699 as well as 6257 and 16257 with no luck.

what isp are you on as this sounds a lot like isp throttling or blocking
also i see from your other posts that you are running mcafee  please check out here and follow the instructions  allowing winmx if this is the case

i also see reading your posts in another  it says you are using norton ...if this is the case i would bin it and try something different as norton seems to hate p2p these days.

We only have McAfee, we got rid of Norton. WinMX is allowed through the firewall, but our searches are still ridiculosly low.  Example only 8 found under Beatles search.  We still have others timing out on when they upload from us and we are unable to complete a download.  We use Qwest MSN for internet.  We didn't have these problems before until they did something to our cable and re had to reset our  router.  It has (according to the forums and tutorials) been port forwarded though.

lol i got rid of mcafee becaus mine seemed to have a problem with winmx ...... that said others run it with no problems

perhaps a check of your router settings might help as it is real easy to overlook something when doing so....this can be done via the link below
http://www.portforward.com/

but from what you have posted i still think it could be a problem with your isp and packet shaping or blocking using anti p2p technology as seems to be a big problem these days
something i did notice from checking out your isp was that they opperate a Misuse of Content and Copyrighted Materials policy

Qwest has designated an agent to receive notifications of alleged copyright infringement under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). If you would like to file a DMCA notification, please complete and submit a DMCA Infringement Notification Form. Subscribers who feel that a DMCA infringement notification was filed in connection with their account in error may complete and submit a DMCA Infringement Counter Notification Form. The completed forms will automatically be sent to the designated agent.

Qwest handles all DMCA notifications it receives in accordance with its established procedures. Given the large volume of such notifications it processes, Qwest does not respond to status inquiries made in connection with any individual notification or series of notifications.

so this leads me to believe they would be using all they can to block p2p also as standard policy & to cover there own backs

Hey guys, thanks for all the help.  I got it working.  It was due to a wrong address in my modem.  My modem was trying to port forward the ports to 192.168.1.1 which is my Linksys router but it really needed to be port forwarding my ports to 192.168.0.2.  Thanks for the help again.  Figure I'd tell you the problem and how I fix it in case someone else has the same problem.  Have fun and thanks again.
