What ports did you want me to try?
I am running XP. I do not use the XP firewall because I use nortons. WinMx works fine with Nortons. When I installed the new router I set ports for a VPN and it works good as well as the xbox 360 and wii. I can disable the router firewall and MX connects.
I tried various ports. When I look at the  port log there are different #'s. I tried some of them too.
I have the current patch for MX.
Thanks. Note I am an newby to this.

Hi Foodgnus

OK let me start with this.. Can make sure that winmx is allowed through nortons as it can be seen as a worm. Here a page to read

https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/norton_2005.html

Also allow ports... u might have 6699 and 6257. Please make sure these are allowed in your router and in the nortons firewall.

Please post and let me know if it connects after that.

Thank fro the reply.
Here is the scoop.
Went to nortons and it is allowed but redid it anyway.
Went to forward the port on the router.
Set up TCP port 6699
UDP port 6257
also set it in the port fowarding and port triggers.
No connection.
Now I then disabled the router firewall and I had a connection in 3 seconds.
Now what. I am stumped
I had done all the above before with the same result.

I would keep router firewall turned off. As it seems to be the issue here.

If you have all your other firewalls turned on I would leave that one turned off as it sounds like somethig in that.

Couple of  Questions.
First Thank you for your help.
By turning the Router off will this make my WII, Xbox 360 and VPN connection vulnerable to outside issues or attach.

Below is a copy of the blocking log. What is the responding port and does that have anything to do with my not connecting

   IP                                        Port                        IP                               Responding port
192.168.1.11          6257          87.106.166.65          7940          UDP          2007-11-27 17:25:41

Go to settings at the top of your winmx and click on the tab  in/out UDP packets .....you will see that they are being blocked hence your problem.
I would disable the router  firewall and use the standard xp one as its as good as most anyway......... whatever firewall you use is vulnerable to outside attacks depending on the attackers knowledge of computors anyway....... The xp one should be sufficient for your needs.....
If you are not confident with the xp firewall i would go for sygate i have used it in the past and it works well against attacks you can get it for free from the link below

http://www.tucows.com/preview/213160

There is also a tutorial for setting up sygate to work with winmx at the link below
