upload problems
« on: November 24, 2007, 01:03:36 am »
Hi!
I have been reading the posts from various users about upload/download problems.   I am using a secondary connection and all of a sudden I am not able to upload on a regular basis.   Usually someone will get lucky, but most of the time I get the message "connection aborted."   This makes trading with people impossible since I never know who is going to be able to upload from me.  I just uninstalled and reinstalled WinMx and patch but this has not helped.   I have no idea how to "change ports", etc., etc., but would be willing to learn.   I made no adjustments or changes to the computer before this problem started.   Any suggestions.   It's very frustrating.   Many thanks.     :)

Hi!   Although I do have a wireless router (Linksys, Wireless-G, 2.4GHz Broadband router), I connect with my desktop directly to Optimum Onling (cable).   The cable modem is a Scientific-Atlanta Webstar modem.    I hope you can help me since it is very hit or miss on who is able to download files from me.   Many thanks.

Hi HellOnEarth,
Many thanks for the link.   I did everything they asked me to do without any problems....  but the WinMx still doesn't work.   What I simply don't understand is why is suddenly stopped working in the first place.   I changed no settings on the computer or on WinMx and is just stopped allowing uploads.   I'm about ready to become a former WinMx user since I'm not able to figure this out.  Any more suggestions?   Thanks.

I personaly found norton (especialy 2007) a pain in the ass with winmx and had to get rid for my winmx to work fine ... as for a firewall windows works as well if not better than any norton one anyway.

I just joined this group and, for the life of me I can't figure out how to post a new question, so the next best thing is to reply to one that is similar to mine. I tried to figure out the tutorials and they are not meant for the kind of non-technical mind such as mine. Port forwarding might as well be instructions on how to perform brain surgery.

My problem is very simple, I cannot upload anything. I have a huge file that took years to accumulate and it just sits there in several folders gathering cyber dust. I would love to share them, but nothing seems to move out of the upload section.  I see that there are 6 slots available, but zero upload bytes and many, many timeouts. I keep getting messages asking me to start them (which I have no idea how to do) or to trade (which I also have no idea how to do). I realize that many people are getting angry with me for not uploading, but I just don't know what to do to accomplish that.

A quick fix for the time being (until you can make sense or somebody can help you with forwarding your ports) would be.....

Have winmx open.... click on the settings tab at the top...Click on Incoming TCP Connections and click the circle that says "Unable To Accept Incoming TCP Connections"  ....... Now on the left click   In/Out UDP Packets..... again click the lower circle  "Unable To Send or Receive UDP Datagrams On Any Port"
Close that box and restart WinMX making sure on the page where u get the green light, you have secondary connection selected.Give it a try and post back for any further help..... somebody will get you sorted out.

good to see you up and running shouse   .....what router /modem are you using ? leave the make and model number here and i will post you to a direct link with easy steps (for even the least technically minded) to configure your router to work with winmx .

To start people just right click on there name on the upload list and select start transfer
To trade is basically to swap files with the person asking ....often people do this to get a start and reciprocate by giving a start back on your chosen file from there transfers  (cuts out the queueing/waiting)

Merry Christmas's to all from hell n heavenly  :D

I'm using a Westell Versalink, model 327W with a wireless connection to a second computer.

While I've got a good knowledgable person here, perhaps I can ask a non-WinMX question. Well, it is somewhat related to WinMX. I used to get a lot of my files from usenet (which are now being passed on to folks on WinMX), but when I moved to BellSouth, I can no longer get connected. No matter what I do, they do not recognize my username or password. I can connect to usenet only if I use Outlook Express, which is highly censored and does not recognize yEnc, which much of usenet uses these days.  Am I going to have to subscribe to a paid mail server, or is there some magic thing I'm not doing? When I was with Alltel, I used their mail server for years with no problems and accumulated a huge file of photos and videos which, thanks to you, is now being shared with over WinMX.

I got to the point where I was told to open a web site and enter the IP address for my router. I have no idea where to find that, so it said to enter the default "192.168.21.1"  That was not a valid address. (So they suggested a similar site of where to meet hot swinging singles, which I strongly suspect would not work either. Hell, maybe I should try it. Who knows, I could get lucky.)

What now?

Whew!  What a nighmare that turned out to be. I got the info ok and then followed all the instructions very meticulously, writing down all the instructions and numbers. The last paragraph said to try to access the internet. I could not. So then it said to go back and put everything back the way it was, then try to access the internet. I still could not. Finally I had to go to System Restore and now everything works fine. I think I'll leave Port Forwarding alone. At least for this lifetime.

That's too bad because I'm thinking of uninstalling WinMX altogether because it takes days, sometimes weeks to download videos. Can you recommend another P2P program that does not require port forwarding?

Funny, the original problem I had was an inability to upload, which now is going like gang-busters. But a P2P program that uploads fast and downloads very slowly (if at all) is not what I want or need.

Anyway, I thank you for your help.

it could be that your outgoing bandwidth is set to high thus restricting your incoming

please take a look here
https://www.winmxworld.com/scripts/bandwidth/

this will test your connection and give you suggested settings & instructions

Downloading often depends on the people you are downloading from .....something i often do is queue for several of the same file then  once they are started cancel the slowest
winmx can be a little slow at times but i always think that the quality of the files far outweighs that problem ..... this said i often get pretty good speeds on a lot of downloads that i am after.
One last thing that could be a possibility is that your isp are restricting your bandwidth.... something that's all to often happening these days (even my own does this at peak times) but with any luck there will be a workaround for this in the future
I hope you persevere a little longer with winmx as the more people using it the stronger the network becomes & winmx is not all about d/loads its also a whole comunity ..... as for other p2p i have used many and found most to be flawed in many ways..... i get a lot of my files via direct downloads & warez sites to share on winmx & use mx for movies and albums also the odd chat now and then  & theres nothing odder than mx ppl  :)
