I had a problem with the WINMX connection window not working in the past. It was corrected by clearing Windows IE history. I have the same problem again now. I just installed Spybot 1.5 and the host file does not change when I start WINMX. WINMX connects OK and I can upload and download, but the connection status window remains white.

I am running
Windows XP home
WINMX 3.54 beta 4

Any clues or comments?

It might because you locked the hosts file with Spybot to read only in the advance settings.
Disable (remove the check mark) Lock Hosts file read-only as protection against hijackers in Spybot's tools settings IE tweaks. You can to re-enable it after you get the update bar in WinMX working again.
The update bar isn't really important you can still connect to WinMX even if it's blank with the patch.

I have Winpatrol running in the background. It had the hosts file locked. I unlocked it from there and all was well again. I will give your suggestion a try. Thanks for you help!
