Recently I was asking a user how they had a copy of a certain file in their shares that I knew was not available to them being they where outside the UK, the answer I got was facinating, so I thought you would all be interested how folks use many ingenious methods to obtain files.
The show In question was from a BBC production and I was informed first of all its a UK only show so he has a friend who between them create a "tunnel" VPN to make it looks like he is in the UK as a normal proxy didnt work for him
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/Then he said he used a tool available from here
http://po-ru.com/projects/iplayer-downloaderThis tool allows the downloading of the actual files and turns them into mov files on a hardrive, I had noticed that his files where not of that type, and was quickly informed he used winavi to convert them, it really does suprise me what people will do to obtain content thats not availbale in their part of the globe.
The folks behind this tool have stated they developed it pimarily to help Linux users make use of a service that the BBC claims was not possible to implement with Linux.
What a suprise eh folks.
