Internet Disruption Problems
« on: August 10, 2008, 07:48:05 am »
Hi folks in case you haven't noticed there have been some recent disruptions with the Internet  backbones (the big links between ISP's and other countries) in the last 24 hours and this has caused some folks to think their MX is broken or damaged, please rest assured that all systems are still working fine here and that if you do experience any Internet problems they will be temporary in nature.

Keep the faith folks  :)

anyone have anymore infos on this? what caused it? what backbones were down? .... i ask this cos ive not had any trouble downloading game demos from the playstation network but i couldnt rely on winmx as a 'traffic trouble' indicator cos when i download with an app or... game machine in this case... that doesnt have any type of throttling option winmx dies anyway.... gotta love dialup....

even this looks normal; http://www.internettrafficreport.com/

PS if anyone knows of any backbone routers that that site doesnt have please update it... maybe it will be a little more accurite/usefull

Hi all

Sorry for the delay in posting this, but after investigations I have the following update.

During the outage the Broadband Network Operations team saw a severe reduction of traffic on the Linx circuit connection which increased to normal levels when the problem cleared.
So far all investigations point at a problem in the Linx network and we are contacting Linx to investigate the root cause of the problem.
Google was also down for several other providers during this time which further adds to this suspicion that it was routing problems outside of our network.

Once again, I'm very sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Kind regards

Sorry i cant post a link to this it is actaully posted on my ISP's forum.

I dont know about if the major backbones are being reported, but my entire thingy is being somewhat slow and unstable on connections, not just winmx, anything that involves access thru winmx, google, or whatever. Really a pain in the ass.

watches peeps not entering queue, watches peeps in the rooms drop lower and lower, sometimes they disappear in batches, but the real winmx I dl on shows no change in dl speed so access is not being interupted, its like different protocols are being screwed with at different times, really odd.

When DNS's servers become affected, you can sure as hell aspect up to 48 hours of trouble. Winmx should be ok due to the fact it mostly only uses IP's in hash form for its operation, it only really use's DNS for connecting. Other things though like torrents use DNS's for searching for trackers.

Their are prob millions of DNS's servers out their and each one is setup diffrently, some can update on seconds, some are more like 48 hours. But stabilty will only be fully returned when every(well not every but most major ISP's servers for sure) DNS server is in agreement that is the correct IP structure to each DNS's. Its not really a difficult procedure to follow and id recommend going reading on the wiki's, but yes, it usually takes a few days to sort out. And ive looked about for any more news on the problems and it doesnt appear to have been published anywhere where i can find it. Only thing i did find was googles attempts at patching their DNS servers due to this new flaw that released earlyer this year. I duno if maybe some major backbone who provides google may have had difficultys patching it. But im only speculating their.
