A major French ISP has declared that it will not take part in snooping on its customers.

Other ISPs like ones located in Australia will openly disagree with content filtering. One ISP in France, called "Free", appears to be saying that it would openly defy French law when it comes to content filtering. All this according to a Google translated report from 01Net.
France has developed a reputation internationally to be the country with politicians that are hoping to get ISPs all across Europe to implement filtering technology by law. While an attempt to dramatically change the laws across Europe, it seems that the drama can be matched by opposition as well. Looking up the ISP on Wikipedia certainly reveals that this isn't just a small company either.
This is not just a political stand by this ISP its a challenge to the false idea that Internet traffic can be "filtered" this has proven time and again to not be the case and there are studies to back up this position, so far the recording industry (a well known group of technical luddites) has been unable to show how this filtering could be delivered in real life, it seems they may be great at ripping off young recording artists but when it comes to trying to dictate their demands to the global intelligentsia of Internet users they don't even leave the starting blocks.
