This looks like rocking the boat for IE and Firefox.

Google is launching an open source web browser to compete with Internet Explorer and Firefox.

The browser is designed to be lightweight and fast, and to cope with the next generation of web applications that rely on graphics and multimedia. Called Chrome, it will launch as a beta for Windows machines in 100 countries, with Mac and Linux versions to come.

I,ll give this a twirl when we see it released as I,m sure many of the rest of you will  :)

guess they got tired of trying to debug their own code to work across different browsers (gmail v2 doesnt work properly with opera due to a bug on googles side... for just one example) and so decided to write their own browser instead.... talk about trying to kill a fly with a shotgun....

Google kicks ass!

They have been talking for over a year and a half (at least) about doing this. It's nice to see that it is proceeding.
Downloading is an addiction I do not want to give up.

win2k users forget about it... its windows XP/ME2 (aka vista) only... and XP users need the TCP/IP crippling SP2 (or later)

Many are not happy with the EULA bundled with Chrome it seems.

Google's new web browser Chrome is fast, shiny, and requires users to sign their very lives over to Google before they can use it. Today's Internet outrage du jour has been Chrome's EULA, which appears to give Google a nonexclusive right to display and distribute every bit of content transmitted through the browser. Now, Google tells Ars that it's a mistake, the EULA will be corrected, and the correction will be retroactive.

As noted by an attorney at Tap the Hive and various and sundry other sites, the Chrome EULA reads like a lot of Google's other EULAs. It requires users to "give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and nonexclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services."

The good news is this has now been rectified, although one has to wonder why they didnt take this sensible action in the first place, are Google becoming a little too greedy ?
