Or more correctly on their new attitude towards leaks.
http://www.zeropaid.com/news/9738/Metallica+on+Album+Leak+to+BitTorrent%3A+%27Happy+Days%27Metallica has seemingly come a long way since back in 2000 when it led the charge against illegal file-sharing.
It was their case against Napster that really made Metallica the face of file-sharing critics and really incensed a lot of their fans who couldn't understand how a band that had already made millions was concerned with making millions more. It became the poster boy for greedy artists everywhere and caused many to turn their backs on the band that had turned it's on them.
Things at Metallica Inc. "Listen, we're ten days from release," Ulrich said. "I mean, from here, we're golden," he added. "If this thing leaks all over the world today or tomorrow, happy days. Happy days.."
Well, "Happy Days" are already here because it leaked to BitTorrent several days ago. The leak reportedly occurred after it was accidentally sold in a French record store, the buyer then wasted no time in sharing his treasure.
To be honest I think they where always deluding themselves when they made claims that ppl would just download and not purchase their offerings , I for one dont know a single Metallica fan who doesnt have at least 4 or 5 of their albums. Artists who say "pay, before you can listen to our music" are setting themselves up for a fall, would anyone here buy a car or fridge without being able to look at it first ?
