Timeout, timeout this, timeout that.....
« on: August 22, 2008, 06:41:41 pm »
Yes, I've tried just about everything I can read up on about timeouts downloading, connecting to network, and connection timed out!  I have mapped new ports thru port forwarding, triple checked firewall settings etc.   Seems like at start up, things will work fine, but after several hours online, just about every connection attempt times out.
Now, there is something I noticed that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere in any tutorials or the like.....  When opening "ipconfig /all", below the usual info, are two more sections regarding "Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-interface:  and  Tunnel adapter Automatic Tunneling Pseudo-Interface:"    Anytime I see something labeled Pseudo, I get worried....    could this be the cause of my slipping connections?   I have a 2-wire 2701-HG  and DSL,  XP home sp2, 2ghz cpu, 1ghz ram, Asus KB card w/onboard ethernet adapter.
ANY SUGGESTIONS???

Hi Timein,

Ive had a look for this info and found this to be the most informative about the extra ipconfig info you have:

http://www.velocityreviews.com/forums/t26648-what-is-a-tunnel-adapter-auto-tunneling.html

I cant say for sure at this time if this could be causing your issues, So if you don't mind could you tell me where you got your patch you use to connect, as I'd like to make sure your not seeing fakes files, these will always  time out as well.

https://patch.winmxconex.com              Your update bar will say 'Patch Online          For Help: WinMXWorld.com'    if you have the right patch already installed then we'll move on to other issues.

I am also not sure if you need this stuff installed or if its not bothering anything then maybe best to leave it, as I said just from reading a few tid bits.  I would like to know if you also see a regular list of your IP Address and DNS and Default Gateway like 192.168.0.1   or are the numbers you see for these starting with fe08:etc:etc (which is IPv6, normal IPs we are used to are IPv4) ?

Ok so this probably didn't help much yet but check those things and post back to me plz

Howdy Me,
Thanks for gettin' back!  I do have a functioning patch displayed on ver. 3.53, that I dld back when it first came out.
As for the Teredo tunneler, the IP address, well there are two, the first one is like 2001:0:4***:****:*: and so on like a dang serial key for windows.  The second has the fe80:ffff:ffff:****:******, then Default Gateway is blank!
Then the auto tunneler has one IP, that is another fe80:5ef*:""":""":":""""", then as above no Gateway listed, but then has three different fec0:0:********, DNS server addresses shown. The physical addresses shown for each are strange as well, with pairs of letter/digit's separated by dashes.  The Teredo has eight pairs, the auto has four......?  Whuddya think?

How Do again, Me,

Ok, so now I just googled around the net and read up on IPv6 and tunneling interfaces until my brain physically HURTS!
What I still failed to find out, tho, is what effect this new protocol will have on P2P, as far as user address obscurity and/or throttling issues, plus, it appears as if Homeland Security folks are boning up on this stuff along with the other "Government Agencies", for whatever reasons.  I can only assume that RIAA and the likes, have their fingers in the pie, TOO!
Keep me posted as to anything you can find out on the subject and as to if I should be thinking....."cease and desist"?   {is that the right term?}

Ok well as far as them boning up hey its the gov, its nothing new the whole idea of the new system is to enlarge the internet basically and allow for more IP to be allocated, now that Internet is in a majorty of areas and households etc.

I wouldnt worry too much about it causing increased security issues however, as what protects you is not the IP or verions of IP that are used but the laws in your country that protect your privacy and privacy of data.   I wont get into the whole can of worms about the Patriot act and the USA spying on its citizens etc.. for now your data and privacy are still fairly protected and leave it at that.

Lets talk about fixing your WinMX instead.. lol

Im still not sure if your Patch is correct because of what you say above "functioning patch displayed on ver. 3.53"  Does the update bar say Patch Online?  thats the key its dark blue background with Tanish lettering.  If now lets get you on the new one as per instructiosn above.

Then the next thing is to make sure that your router is set up right and any firewalls.  So just for the record could you tell me a few things:

What ports have you set up in WinMX and the Router?
In your 2wire did you set up two rules for WinMX, a TCP and a UDP rule?
What firewalls and antivirus do you have installed (notice I didnt say enabled) anything you have installed id like to know about?

Hey Me,
On the Patch subject; it says "Patch Online                   For help Visit: WinMXWorld"  WinMXWorld font has a gold color tint.
In the router, I set up a "WinMX1     TCP 26699"   and then "WinMX2       UDP 45762"
I have AVG Free v. 8.0.138   and ZoneAlarm v.7.0.483  installed  The windows firewall is turned off.  I did, however, just notice the new ZoneAlarm SpyBlocker toolbar installed with the latest ver. and shut it off. Would that be the cause?

Yes its possible, just depends on how they set up the program, wouldnt be  the first time WinMX and Zonealarm didnt play nice together either.

At this point I'd like to clarify something also for myself, maybe ive just missed this but

Do all uploads time out?
Do all downloads time out?
Is it just most uploads?
Is it just lots of Downloads?

No, not every thing is timing out like it was.
Seems like the Uploads are working just fine.  As we speak, I've got 4 running with 7 in que...
I noticed when I turned off the SpyBlocker about half of the timeouted users came online. I thought that device only functioned in the browser!!  I still see quite a few timeouts, but that could be "normal".
Another user suggested re-installing with 3.54 anyhow, as this should improve things.  I might have to agree, since this is an installation in use for some time, there might be some corruptions in it.  Like I querried them, last time I re-intalled, my incomplete files wouldn't load, don't know why??

One quick thing I forgot to ask:::
When I go to the primary connection, I don't see ANY search results, when searching, plus I don't usually see any returns when "finding sources" on incompletes.  Is this normal?  Because of this I never use the primary hook up.
Thanks Again

Ok then I have a couple things for you to try, and installing 3.54 for this purpose isnt really needed, so thats up to your own choice.  I'll get you a page about the different versions and stuff so you can decide that too.

First off tho since I guess we are talking about downloads, this wont be a port issue, even tho it does sound like the Zone Alarm might be messing with things a bit, if it was me I'd remove it for now and see if things are actually improved or not.  Its not usually our policy to tell you to remove things if your happy with them but just for testing maybe?

Ok here are a few things I'd like you to read about then get back to me and let me know.

https://www.winmxworld.com/help/winmx-versions.html - differences in different Client version (most popular ones)

https://www.winmxworld.com/help/winmx-transfers-incompletes.html  - have a look at this for your incompletes, the basic thing to know here is
1) WinMX must be able to find those files, they must be in the same folder you have your incoming files going to.
Go to WinMX Settings > File Transfers > up the top right you'll see a Incoming Files Folder path, make a note of it and them make sure any files you have listed as Incomplete_hiehhs8927ehreqa.whatever  are all in there.
2) in order for them to auto reload on start up they must have an AEQ and an AFS settings beside them.  If they dont when you load them right click each one or Highlight first, Shift + Highlight last, then right click and set the Auto Enter Que - 100, and Auto Find Sources - 10min.

This leads me to my next thing it sounds like maybe your normal settings for AEQ and AFS maybe low.
https://www.winmxworld.com/help/winmx-settings-search.html

Be sure those are set as per that page, and test this out for a bit and let me know how you get on.

Ok you posted while i was posting so let me address your second post here:

Not getting Search results on Primary (if your sure its a file that is not rare) is going to be a UDP port issue.  So if its ok with you, not to draw this out for you more, can we go with what ive got up top for now.  Lets see how you get on, if things go well then i'll personally walk you through your set up to make sure its all ok.  One thing to keep in mind, if the zone spy program was messing with MX it could very well have caused that with Primary and WinMX too.  Test it without that installed?

Hi Me,
Not sure what I might'a did or didn't, but The WinMX is sailin' along smooth again.  Every so often, though, about half of the qued users will time out and I'll lose those download ques, then after about 5 min or so, they start comin' back.   I can live with that!!

On a different note:  What's up with all the coded jibberish I see when browsing user files?  Is it a language barrier? I haven't been able to find any adapter setting for this, or is it something else?
Time...

Thanks VERY much for all the help and knowledge!!

If you look about half way down the page the gibberish is explained there.  There is also a link to help you be able to 'see' the japanese characters correctly, of course this doesnt mean you'll understand it
