RIAA Launch Childish Attack On Filesharing Defence Lawyer
« on: September 18, 2008, 09:09:03 am »
It Seems Ray beckerman is becoming a major threat to the Cartels, so much so they have resorted to name calling as case after case is lost by them.

http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/09/riaa-decries-at.html

Quote
The Recording Industry Association of America is declaring attorney-blogger Ray Beckerman a "vexatious" litigator and is seeking unspecified monetary sanctions to punish him in his defense of a New York woman accused of making copyrighted music available on the Kazaa file sharing system.

The RIAA said Beckerman, one of the nation's few attorneys who defends accused file sharers, "has maintained an anti-recording industry blog during the course of this case and has consistently posted virtually every one of his baseless motions on his blog seeking to bolster his public relations campaign and embarrass plaintiffs," the RIAA wrote (.pdf) in court briefs. "Such vexatious conduct demeans the integrity of these judicial proceedings and warrants this imposition of sanctions."

Lory Lybeck, a Washington state defense attorney leading a proposed class-action lawsuit accusing the RIAA of allegedly engaging in "sham" litigation tactics, said the RIAA's motion comes from the same organization that has sued about 30,000 people over the last five years for file sharing, some of them falsely. It's the same organization, he said, that has sued dead people, the elderly and even children -- all while using unlicensed investigators.

"This is like irony and irony and irony," Lybeck said in a telephone interview. "That's what vexatious litigation is."

Beckerman, whose blog is Recording Industry vs The People, said in an interview the allegations were "frivolous and irresponsible."

They really are getting desperate, perhaps its time folks ratcheted up the pressure on the "charity" status the RIAA abuse to not pay tax. Investigators need only dig around Carys Wages slips to see there is something not quite right with them having such a status, only last year he received more than $1million+ for helping convince politicians the world is coming to an end when in fact profits are healthy but sliding due to the new download model the industry adopted.

Its a pity there are no laws forcing such Cartels to make honest statements, until there is we must listen to propaganda at play and know it for what it is, these are the same corporate groups that pay criminals to commit crimes on their behalf such as ddos attacks, illegal data harvesting and email stealing.

It sounds very much like the RIAA pot is calling the Resistance kettle black. They accuse him of what they themselves do.

I hadn't heard about the RIAA claim to be a charity before. On what basis does this multi-million (billion?) dollar business claim to be a charity with tax exemption? Maybe it's for giving money to politicians and permanent heads of government departments.

It's past time these free loaders were shown that the gravy train has stopped and it's time they got honest jobs.

Thank you for the link; I was pleased to read it. Clearly these mongrels have no conscience. Whenever I read something about these people the word 'psychopath' keeps coming into my mind.

I was concerned that the site made my McAfee Site Advisor show a red alert, saying 'When we tested this site we found links to antispyware.com, which our analysis found to be suspicious'. I don't know what antispyware.com does, but (for the benefit of those who don't use Site Advisor) I guess people visiting should be careful what they click on.

I'm glad to hear that they are in the clear.

I am becoming suspicious of McAfee Site Advisor and wonder if it is open to abuse by people who have a vendetta, to red list sites they don't like. This is not the first instance I have encountered of Site Advisor giving a red warning where it isn't deserved.

The Christian site http://www.wayoflife.org/fbns/fbns-index/index2fbns.htm is finally green this week, but for more than a year had a red warning assigned to it. When I wrote to the site's author last year, he told me he didn't have the spare time to argue with McAfee about this, and he didn't care what they thought. While many might not like or agree with his site's contents, there is no way that the site was sending out pestering emails, which is what it was accused of, and so didn't deserve the red warning. I suspect that some person unknown saw to it that his site was put onto McAfee's red list because he didn't like what he was reading there. If this is true, then I wonder how many other sites out there may suffer the same situation.

Site Advisor could be a great resource nad I'll keep using it, but it clearly needs better policing of errors than it currently employs.
