I've been running Win MX sucessfully for many years.. until I installed Kaspersky Internet Security 7. I can no longer act as a primary because I get little to no search results and uploads always timeout. As a secondary the search results are abundant but again I have upload/download timeouts 75% of the time.

I've added ports 6257 (UDP) and 6699 (TCP) and included the .exe file on both Windows XP and Kaspersky.

Can anyone help me?

Hi Laurie,

Im not a Kaspersky user myself and was hoping someone that was would pop by to answer this for you, It does sound as if the Pirmary traffic is being interrupted or blocked in some cases by it.

It maybe that Kaspersky has some other settings maybe even p2p specific settings that the security could be lowered on? The fact that you'd estimate 25% sucsess shows the ports are open, but the traffic is being messed with either by Kaspersky or by the ISP, Shaw have always been hot and heavy into throttling. Could be coincidence, but like you I'd suspect Kaspersky first here. If you have the installer for this software, it maybe a good idea to uninstall it to verify that it does indeed work fine without it.

When you used Secondary can you also verify for me that you did 'Not' adjust your WinMX Settings for Ports?

Hi thanks for your reply.... No I didn't adjust any Win MX settings when secondary worked. And to confirm... I disabled my Kaspersky firewall and primary works like a charm... So I am downloading and uploading but I feel vulnerable with just the Windows XP firewall running.

Well honestly XP firewall is just as good as any other firewall, my only problem with it is that you have to configure it to let you know when things are dialing in. So I have a suggestion for you for now, Sygate.

It was bought out by Nortons (to stifle compatition) so there are no new updates of it but this isnt antivirus we are talking about its still a darn good firewall and very WinMX friendly. Rather then to leave your self open how about giving it a try?
