Queue and connection time out
« on: September 16, 2008, 08:45:56 am »
When I get into the queue and start to wait for a download after a short period it disconnects saying "Connection time out (Waiting for network reply)". Some downloads do that even before getting into queue. Some downloads get into queue at number 1 position and never start also. And there are downloads that get into queue, go up to number 2 or 3 but jump and the end of the queue after that.

Need help please.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Nat66s

Can you give me some more information please.

Like what operating system are you running, are you running a router and what firewalls are you using?

Thanks

It would be important to know what patch your using and are you running on secondary or primary when using WinMX too.

Do your uploads work ok or are they doing the same thing?

Thanks for a fast reply )

I'm running XP Home SP3, built windows firewall, no router, secondary connection, ADSL USB modem, winmx 3.53, patch from  https://patch.winmxconex.com/.

Uploads seem work ok but never get finished at the first time.

Ok Nat, it sounds like for some reason your disconnecting quite often.  This could be from a hardware fault like a modem that is going bad, or cables that are going bad, or even just some  type of problem with your Internet Service Provider, being a russian one I cant say im sure about the service.

Im assuming this must be a fairly new issue for you and going to suggest you try updating your WinMX version to the 3.54b4 one, which you can get from that same url you posted. This one has some protections from things that can cause this type of issue.

Its also a good idea to replace the cable if your not using wireless and see if this helps, cables are fairly cheap but can cause problems with minute loss of connection which WinMX is sensitive to, that you dont notice.

If you can run that newer version for me for a few days to see if it helps, and report back to us here, we can see about further diagnosis of this issue for you.

Ok. I've replaced cable and running newer version for now. Uploads seem totally fine but downloads never start as before (connection time out). The download queue is blinking hard. My modem is a brand new.

This is how the download window looks like:

Ok Nat66s,

Lets try adjusting your 'Time Out' Settings in WinMX see if this helps with the ones that say: Timed Out(waiting for connections).
https://www.winmxworld.com/help/winmx-settings-file_transfers.html

This page has an explanation about the third paragraph.

We can increase the time before some of those timeouts happen and hopefully this will make them connect easier, the ones that say 'File/User Unavailable' however are not easy to fix, usually that problem is on their end.

Something else to consider, noticed your using OpenNap as well, what operating system do you use?

Looks like XP.  We may also need to increase the TCP connections limit for you, this may or may not help but it cant hurt.  XP has a limit of 10 which can cause some users issues and its very hard to diagnose.  If you are on XP here is a guide for changing that limit.

Give these a try and post back to let us know Nat66s

Hi MeHere,

I've increased XP TCP connections limit the way you suggested and set up "Time Out" in WinMX as recommended above. Now everything looks like that:

Well this shot looks worse but honestly nothing we have done could make it worse, so on that I have to say this is going to be down to the ISP.  I cant comment with any real knowledge about your ISP in particular but I can tell you after dealing with many that throttle, this looks like your ISP is throttling you and its causing the diconnects.

Is it worse during any certain time of the day or nite, or maybe I should ask if its better at any time that you can tell?
