file mismatch(004) error
« on: September 13, 2005, 11:49:59 am »
When I get file mismatch(004) error, the user that I am trying to download from doesn't clear. I just right click on the user and click retry and 98% of the time the file will resume and download perfectly. I have looked up info on this and all have ever found to do when this this mismatch error happens is to use the Trim 10K command.
I don't know if anybody else does this, but it really works. Or, I suppose I should say it works for me. There have only been a couple of times that it hasn't, but on those couple of times neither did the trim 10K command.
Although, if  there is a que it will put you in que. Just wanted ya'll to know my experience with it.

I have been able to salvage files that Trim!0k failed to rescue using trunk
Its ree to download at the link below   Failing that I can usually be found in TV Series chatroom

Trunk v.1.1.0.4 last update 23 May 2003

Everytime the WInMX 'Trim 4k from the end of file' fails, you'll probably can resume your download if you cut a bigger part of your incomplete file.  This utility let you choose how many bytes you want to cut.

How do you do this trim thing? I seem not to have an option anywhere to do this.

hi mattbmw241

Welcome to the site..

There are two ways to trim files
1. The first is to right click the file in your transfers window while its Red.  If you have more then 0% of this file you can see a 'Trim 10K' option on most.  Do this about 5 times.  If its a 0% file or still doesnt have that option then here is my advice ..  If its less then 5% of it.. ditch it and start a new download.
2. If its more then 5% or you dont want to ditch this file then do this
Go to this tutorial and grab the Trunk Tool and follow the directions there to trim it:
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/trunk_2005.html

Let me know if you still have any problems..

Hi Me Here
Thanks for your reply.
My attempted downloads stop almost immediately.
A strange thing is that it always seems to download 2176 bytes or zero bytes.
I have tried Trunk and retried to continue with an incomplete file but it did turn blue as if it was going to do the business, even giving me a download rate, but this just reduced to nothing and then turned red and failed, again.
I do not see a trim option when I right click the red file is this relavent or just that I have not download enough of the file to trim?
I am having no problems with people uploading from me.
I have downloaded the patch and am running v 3.54 beta 4.
I am running Bulldog Firewall and Windows xp firewall but with WinMX allowed.
I have not used WINMX for a few months because I was having this problem but thought that the new patch may help but I still seem to be in the same situation.
Hope you can help.
Cheers
Matthew

Matthew could I get you to PM me on site some of the file names you have incomplete please,

2176 bites received raises a HUGE red flag at me about fakes.. I would venture to bet these are what we called Honeypot fakes.. in which you can dl a small percentage in order to make most folks think there is a problem on their end and give up using p2p forever and go immediately to a store near them and purchase an over priced, artist ripping, full cd album to get that one song..

Erm.. NOT.. lol

Matthew pm me if ya dong mind before you delete those.  I would like to get them from you on WinMX.

**EDIT** I have been informed that 'Honeypot' has a use in Computer lingo that may make it completely freaky if I use it in this example.  So lets just say its a partial download to make you think there are problems..
