Gibz, great to have ya visit.... :wink:

Just wondering if you have tried the newest Peerguardian 2 with your Firewall.  Havent really heard anyone having problems with it and its their beta version so they are updating it regularly.  Might be worth a try.

If you have problems still with it, they have a Bug Tracker to let you be apart of developing better versions.
Find it at Bug Tracker

You can download block lists or the Peer 2 from PeerGuardian.
This at least will give you known lists of dodgy ips to upload into your firewall.

There is one other program that you may or may not have heard of, thats BendMX Bye Bye Bad IP blocker.  A patch to block certain IP(-Ranges) from connecting to your WinMX (should reduce fake search results on primary connection). If you use BendMX 3.99 a3 you dont need this.

You can get it from MXControl BendMX Bye Bye Bad-IP

So, hope this helps ya some on getting protected fully.  Not sure about country specific as many of the dodgy IPs are from a wide variety of areas of the world.

Hope to see ya round else where.. and let us know how this worked out for you.

Hey Gibz.. ermmm  :roll:

Not sure what happened.. or why you deleted your last post here.. was a good one for info.. lol

But anyway was gone for I could get to ya..

If your on secondary then yes Bender's prgram wont work.  I would love for you to keep us informed on how your doing with the Peer and the bug with McAfee, incase your not alone.. whether they are able to fix it in future versions.

As I suggested earlier.. I would download the block lists they have and sort through to set some ranges up on your firewall for now...

Hope this helps someone out there with the same troubles..

lol ..sorry for deleting post's, I have a tendency to clean up after myself when I think a post has become redundent.

I will NOT delete any more posts in the future   :D

Ahhhh, this thread can probably be removed now, I would do it.... but I just said I wouldn't do that any more  :lol:

Ok, this is where I am upto at the moment,  I have switched back to "McAfee Personal Firewall plus  v6.0.6014" b/c it is the firewall I am most comfortable using, and  to get ip numbers/ranges to block I am using PeerGuardian 2 altho it dosn't work With McAfee FW at the moment b/c of somthing in  McAfee FW that visiously destroy's harmless  drivers (and I was told that by the people at "Methlabs.org" btw),  I am still able too DL" Block Lists" and use PG to view them and add them to my firewalls "Banned ip list" manually as me_here suggested in a previous post .

And I am also currently haveing talks with the officals at Methlabs to get there advise on how to put together an email to send to "McAfee  Customer Support" in the hope that we can get them to address this issue.

I will keep you informed as to the progress of this venture.. so.... watch this space.

cheers  :D

PROGRESS UPDATE
« Reply #6 on: May 16, 2005, 06:08:35 am »
Well.  I didn't send any emails to McAfee support because not long after my last post here I managed to get PG2 (beta 5b) to run along side McAfee FW, regardless of the fact that the peep's at Methlabs.org say it will not work with McAfee FW's. So all I can do for anyone else who is trying too sort out this issue is explain the procedure I used to get PeerGuardian working on my machine....
_-------------------------------------
**First of all I use the following OS & applications**

* XP Pro (sp2)

* McAfee Personal Firewall plus v6.0.6014

* AVG-7 free anti-virus
--

* WinMX 3.53

* Mx Monitor 1.28Eb
--

* FireFox  1.0.4 (browser)
--
* PeerGuardian 2 (beta 5b)
------------------------------------------

The way I got PG2 too work was quite simply to just make sure that you have it set to "START WITH WINDOWS" and leave PG2 OPEN, just minimize it too the task bar
.

So being that PG2 (5b) is beta software, I will leave it there for now and look forword too there final release (PG2 6).

Cheers :)
