Disable Browsing

Id ideally like to enable browsing and searching of my files only for selected people - such as those I have requested files from.

If I had the source code, or a client compatible with the network existed, I could figure this out.

Is there any third party app that even has the ability to disable browsing of my files ?

The nature of WinMx is to share what you get and that gives WinMx its right of existance as a filesharing program.
If you are looking for ways to share only with selected people you could share filespace on the internet, there are several possibilities to do so. Of course it will be hard to get files from outside that selected group.

Back to your question, WinMx is closed source and as for this moment there are no compattible clients able to do filetransfer.
The only possible 3th party program I could think of is a firewall with only the IP of your selected group allowed, but maybe somebody else has a clever solution

Set up an OpenNap server with password on entry, disconnect from winmx network.
No one will be able to browse your files or find you in search unless they are connected to your 'private' server.
Nice thing about doing it this way is that you will be equally disadvantaged,
you will be only able to search & browse users from your 'private' network.

Hi Joeb, the key reason you cant disable browsing of your files is for the simple reason the list is not being delivered from you but the primary your connected to, primaries act as file indexers and index your file list when you join the WinMX network, this is the list thats passed around when a browse request is made.

If you are a primary and want to block browsing of your own and (by extention) the secondaries your connected to this is technically possible but not overly trivial, however as Wonderer makes clear we are all pro file sharing here and thus anything that will likley impact on others sharing their content is not good news in our book,and there lies the problem with giving you the full details you may wish to have.
