Cutting Audio Files
« on: May 28, 2006, 05:31:07 pm »
Sorry, rather crude name for a topic. But comes straight to the point.

Is there any software that enables you to cut parts of audio files and convert them into new files? I have been wanting that for a long time, but couldn't get it anywhere. Preferably freeware. Please also post the link from where you can get the software. If no freeware are there, then shareware will have to do. I only want to grab parts of the files, not edit, mix or do anything that might mutilate them.

Cheers

I use mp3 direct cut for that purpose, which is free & available from http://www.mpesch3.de it's designed to do exactly that with mp3 format files, without the quality losses of decoding & re-encoding them.

When I click on ecord, a message pops up :

Download the free Lame_dll.exe... blah blah.

From where can I get the file?

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?lame_enc appears to have it, must confess i havn't used the record function, i simply select part of the file & save selection to a new file, to do what you asked in your original post, i havn't consequently had to use the record function at all

am i right in thinking that direct cut is only viable with high speed internet?and shouldn't it be possible to "cut" part of a file with windows Sound recorder?-I'd call it editing...but could be barking yup the wrong tree.I've used S.R where there've been 2 songs(like in a live performance)that run into each other, separate them into 2 new files. But to do this ,the files have to first be in the wav. format, then transfer into format of choice.May be of use to ya,if not, someone else.Cheers.

Any software for audio with windows in it's name will work only with wav formats
mp3direct cut works with the much more common mp3 format.

Cheers :P
