Help! connection problem
« on: February 17, 2010, 02:05:20 pm »
Hello, I changed my ISP some time ago and I can not login with primary connection after that, even if after hunderds of try. I assume the problem is

- my client is obsolete, my version is 3.54b. any newer?
- ISP changes cause the problem, is there any login files?
- or firewall problem

any help values!

winmx 3,54 is not obsolete, that is the current program to use,

it could be your ISP is blocking you, but its more likely it could be a router or firewall problem,

if you can provide info like what operating system ie: XP Vista Win7?
are you using a router?
do you have another firewall? like the windows 1 running as well?
have you done a windows update?

thank you for the reply
: XP Vista Win7?           -XP
are you using a router?           - maybe no.
do you have another firewall? like the windows 1 running as well?   - no.
have you done a windows update? -always.

BTW, I have faced same problem last year when I change to another ISP, it recovery after couples of days. but this time it looks bad. Oh, I forget to say I use a new computer with old hard disk.

Are you connecting more then 1 computer to your home network/internet?

Also what is your new ISP? This information would provide very useful in determining if your ISP throttles connections, and their equipment they lease to you.

No. only one computer is connected now. another computer is not in use.

the connection works before I use the new computer so I suspect ISP is not root cause. now my primary connection works at some time but it is very unstable. and I could not search any files. sometimes I can see other users are in my quene but none of them can get any upload.

with secondary connection it seems I can connect and search. but it is not as good as usual connection.

Enigmatic, it would be good if we knew more, and can work with you live.

Even though your WinMX says it cannot c onnect, you CAN enter chat rooms, and in our Help room, we can give you live help. Copy this address:

WinMXWorld.com Help_AE182F4EBABE

Open up WinMX, and go to the chat section, click ok at the warning notice, and in the filter bar at the top of the room list screen, paste in that name, and then, at the right, click Join Room

Come on in and we will be happy to be able to help, even diagnose the problem

What Country are you in, and what ISP do you use?

i think what omega means is can you connect more computer in stead of are connected with more than one, i think you need to open your just ports in your router, have a read over at portforward.com and walk through the steps

how to config the port forwarding?

https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/routers_info.html

I dont use a router, my PC is connected directly to the outside network cable. does it mean, I need to config sth in ISP's router?

yes, or if you have a router, configure it for NAT to your own PC...

just trying to make it simple here..

your computer is plugged into alittle box right?  this is a modem or a router, if youc an plug one pc in (and no phone) it's a modem .. otherwise it's a router (more computer or 1 and a phone connector)

Most modems given by ISPs are also routers, like mine is. I have a switch and wireless access point and use my modem as my router. In order for me to use WinMX on primary, I would need to forward the ports in my modem, even if I was directly connected. I would contact your ISP and ask them if your modem is also a router, and if it is, how to access its interface.
