Nokia To Shut Down Ovi File-Sharing Service

Nokia today announced that it will discontinue Ovi, its popular mobile file-sharing service, which allows customers to remotely access and transfer files from their computer via mobile phone.

The Espoo, Finland-based company sent an email to Ovi users Thursday informing them that service will be cut off October 1. The message also asked customers to uninstall the Ovi Files Connector from their computers.

The Ovi service has more than 1.5 million users, but it does not fit with the company's overall strategy.

What they probably mean is it isn't making money.

Nokia have realized android is the future for them. And Ovi is a closed development system requiring developers to pay a fair bit for the development of software on nokia phones. for the last 2 years its been a long, and always loosing battle with people making their own stuff, digitally signing it with hacked keys. And sharing it. So why when android is about, they can create their own programs for that platform and sell them. And all this fighting with its purchasers will end. Not that android prob wont have the same problems. But hay it wont be their problem. And they will likely sue the developers if free versions of their pay stuff keeps getting hacked. Its really a win win to shut Ovi.
