Author Topic: Norton 360 thinks programs I download has a virus in it!! (Read 2018 times)

I am finding that Norton 360 finds a "Suspicious Cloud" or something in just about all the .rar programs I try to uncompress. It takes out the .exe files as high risk with it's auto protect (Insight). I believe it is Norton overcompensating and would like to know if anyone else has this problem and what to do about it.
It has also flagged programs I have previously installed when it found its compressed file. Any help would be appreciated !! :O) Thanks, Kricket

This is a classic case of Norton finding "false positives". I'm very tempted to say, dump Norton and get Avast. Norton is not the best AV program by a long way.

I use Norton 360 and I found that the zip and rar files it found fault in where ones that had come from serialz and crackz sites, which are famous for having viruses and malware built into the exe files, so I've been told.

Hi,

I ve ditched norton a year ago, the last reasonable version i used was a 2005 version, each newer version of 360 got worse in detecting (wrapped) keygens and the like, i now use AVG wich is a whole lot better ...not perfect but better

It detects a hack ...that does not always mean it s mallware!

norton is notorious for screaming 'virus' when custom exe packers are used .... demoscene prods were constantly being flagged on another box that had it... that other box is running avast free now.....

biggest problems with some protection software are - they tend to forget who's the boss and they tend to have you buy them every year

In my experiance avast is good though a resource hog. I've used the free version of antivir for quite some time and found it to bee good, though a bit parinoid. I got a virus the one time I was using avg, and I've had to clean viruses off computers for people who relied on norton.
