The FBI had been posing for a considerable amount of time as server operators, inviting people to upload and download material. Once a solid relationship had been established between the FBI and top warez sites, the trap had been set. It was only a matter of time until the FBI had collected enough evidence to make an arrest. While the FBI has only announced the arrest of one individual, it is expected that more information will be released today implicating additional people.

The law seems hypocritical here, these agents are allowed to break the law for over a year, and infringe rightsholders massively, because lets be honest folks, its not just MPAA/RIAA members whos stuff gets shared on the networks, in most nations that operate by the rule of law this is called entrapment and inducement.

I smell corrupt politics behind all this, forget 9-11, the Cartel are finding ways to exploit the new laws to their advantage and justice will always be the first casualty.

just reading those warrents, i like their list of things that they will consider to be evidence that you are doing something illegal... they include computers, keyboards, mice, compilers, web browsers, FTP clients and a whole load of other completely legal things that have nothing to do with what they are accuisng...

and of course they need to sieze any instruction manuals they find for how to use the computers - i'm guessing that part is for their investigators, if they dont have the manual then they cant use the keyboard and mouse so they have no evidence

Although "Operation Site Down" took years to establish, the searches were conducted in blitzkrieg fashion. Within 24 hours, 70 searches were executed in the United States and 20 more overseas. Four (4) individuals in the United States, who apparently did not have their papers, were arrested. Additional arrests were conducted in Canada, Israel, France, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Germany, Portugal and Australia.

The FBI claims that "at least eight" major online distribution sites were dismantled. As part of the raids, more than 120 leading members of the "organized online piracy underground" were identified

Among the warez groups hit yesterday are: RiSCISO, Myth, TDA, LND, Goodfellaz, Hoodlum, Vengeance, Centropy, Wasted Time, Paranoid, Corrupt, Gamerz, AdmitONE, Hellbound, KGS, BBX, KHG, NOX, NFR, CDZ, TUN, and BHP. These groups alone are allegedly responsible for stealing, cracking and distributing hundreds of well-known titles, such as Autodesk's Autocad 2006, Adobe's Photoshop, and the movies "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" and "Mr. and Mrs. Smith." Operation Site Down is expected to dismantle many of these international warez syndicates and significantly disrupt the illicit operations of others.

Well there you have it folks its easier to catch software crackers and distributors, who sit at home tapping away at their keyboards that gun toting terrorists, a street cleaner could have rounded this lot up, their not exactly hardened criminals..lol

My advice for the FBI ?  

Leave civil matters to the civil authorities, or you become political puppets.

oh, thats good to hear, they went and did all that, and they managed to arrest 4 people, on completely unrelated charges...
