http://www.p2pon.com/2011/08/03/czech-pirate-party-launches-file-sharing-websites-declares-war-against-copyright-owners/“We unequivocally declare open war on the Anti-Piracy Union,” are the words that started the protest of Czech Pirate Party Vice President Mikuláš Ferjencik against the decision to take to court a 16-year-old Czech high school student asked to pay €5 million for running a file-sharing website that offered links to copyright protected content (without hosting the pirated content itself).
To back up their protest with more than words the Czech Pirate Party has also launched a linking site of its own called Tipnafilm.cz.
According to Ferjencik, their newly launched site offers ten times more links than the one operated by the student. “Linking is not a crime” reads the site’s slogan.
The purpose of launching a new linking site that surpasses in scale the student’s site (called by the Union the “greatest pirate in the country”) was to make the Union redirect its “its preposterous claims at the Pirate Party” and leave the student alone.
It remains to be seen whether this move will prove helpful for the teen. However, it will definitely show that the Pirate Party means business (no pun intended).
Only 16 and he's expected to pay 5 million euros. I hope he gets a bit more pocket money than I did at that age.
