In a clear attack against delivering unmolested data to customers and underhandedly attacking their privacy we see yet another erosion of  service standards from some of the biggest ISP's in the US.

Five ISPs will launch the Copyright Alert System (CAS) on Monday. The new service is a digital piracy platform that monitors for internet users who even “casually” pirate material, while punishing those users for their infringements. The five participating ISPs to initially enroll in CAS include: AT&T, Cablevision, Comcast, Time Warner, and Verizon.

While ISPs and government officials have called the Copyright Alert System nothing more than an “educational” service, critics have attack it for being a corporate interest platform meant to stifle internet advances.

While the ISP owning studios do their best to turn the internet into a content delivery system by attacking any self publishing system not all of us are so easily fooled by their fairy stories.
Its simply a shame that big businesses with a finger in the Hollywood pie abuse their trusted ISP position to spy on the activities of their customers and pontificate unilaterally at them regarding what their customers use to share what are in many cases their own files, it seems theres a delusion amongst the fat cats that all content belongs to them and anyone self publishing is firstly looked at as a threat and secondly impeded by measures such as this, the term morally bankrupt springs to mind.
