Losing connections during a browse and one other question
« on: December 10, 2005, 06:03:44 pm »
Hi,
Is there a fix for the problem of either not being able to connect and losing connections during retrys if a long browse is happening at the same time?

Also is there a description of what your various goodies do?

Thanks,
Barry

Hi

What versions of WinMX are you both using, 3.53 has a known bug that causes it to loose connection at times, usually with room listings, and there is a patch for this is upgrading to 3.54 is not an option.

As for the AOL problem, you may want to give them a call and make sure its not a problem in your area and see if they may want to try you on a new modem also.

hi, bsw. The problem you're having with retries timing out during long browses is that when you browse, your connection to WinMX will be stuck downloading this file list, and can't receive anything else during the browse. When you retry, your response to the retry will get queued through the WinMX connection, and you won't receive it before the file list is completely downloaded. If the browse takes too long, your retry may time out. There's not much to do about this other than trying to avoid retrying while you're browsing, or even easier, just retry again after the browse has finished :)

And to your other question, you mean the third party tools and software section?
Not all of the tools have a description of what they do, but they are sorted into categories, so you'll find chat servers for hosting chat rooms under "chat servers" for example. You can also take a look in the tutorials section to see if there's a tutorial on how to set up the program you're looking at, maybe you'll have more of an idea of what they do after reading them :)
