Yahoo reported yesterday in a blog post that Yahoo mail had been the subject of a cyber-attack, and it was confirmed that a number of users e-mail accounts had been compromised. They stated that this was a coordinated effort by hackers who tried to log into many email accounts with stolen usernames and passwords. So far the details of just how many accounts have been affected are limited, and Yahoo has demonstrated a resistance to providing a lot of information, as we have seen in the past. Yahoo has declined any further comment at this time, but has teamed up with federal law enforcement to investigate the attack. Some users have received text messages informing them of the hack. Yahoo has been resetting the credentials of those affected, but it would be strongly advisable to change your password immediately if you are using Yahoo mail.
