NSA Attack Malware Exposed

Yet another horror story  :o

https://firstlook.org/theintercept/article/2014/03/12/nsa-plans-infect-millions-computers-malware/

Quote
Top-secret documents reveal that the National Security Agency is dramatically expanding its ability to covertly hack into computers on a mass scale by using automated systems that reduce the level of human oversight in the process.

In some cases the NSA has masqueraded as a fake Facebook server, using the social media site as a launching pad to infect a target’s computer and exfiltrate files from a hard drive. In others, it has sent out spam emails laced with the malware, which can be tailored to covertly record audio from a computer’s microphone and take snapshots with its webcam. The hacking systems have also enabled the NSA to launch cyberattacks by corrupting and disrupting file downloads or denying access to websites.

The implants being deployed were once reserved for a few hundred hard-to-reach targets, whose communications could not be monitored through traditional wiretaps. But the documents analyzed by The Intercept show how the NSA has aggressively accelerated its hacking initiatives in the past decade by computerizing some processes previously handled by humans. The automated system – codenamed TURBINE – is designed to “allow the current implant network to scale to large size (millions of implants) by creating a system that does automated control implants by groups instead of individually.”

Will anyone reel these cyber criminals in ?

I have a friend who doesn't have a computer, laptop, mobile phone or anything else. I'm increasingly feeling envious of him. If I didn't feel I need my internet connection and phone I'd be tempted to drop them just to keep these scum government agencies and corporate spies in the dark.

I also do not own a mobile phone, I found in the early days that it was unhelpful for me to be in contact 24 hours a day, if folks want me these days they can make their way to me and thus I know they have put in some effort to visit, having a cell phone simply wasted hours of my time fendling off lazy folks who enjoyed the novelty of spending my time, that certainly doesnt happen anymore  :-D

I also do not use email, no spam here  8)

Theres a lot to said for having time off from the high tech side of life, although we are sociable animals we do sometimes forget to focus on people who matter directly instead looking out to hundreds of folks on facebook and broadcasting your life step by step all seems to me to be a very poor usage of folks lifes. Quality of contacts leads to a more fulfilling life.

I dont use facebook either btw  8)
