Youtube Downloading Sites Enter Googles Cross-Hairs

With over a billion users YouTube is the largest video portal on the Internet. Every day users watch hundreds of millions of hours of video on the site, and for many it's a prime source to enjoy music as well.
While YouTube is a blessing to thousands of content creators, there are also concerns among rightsholders. Music labels in particular are not happy with the fact that music videos can be easily downloaded from the site with help from external services.
To address the problem YouTube is contacting these third party sites, urging them to shut down this functionality.

I'm not sure why they have waited this long to act against such sites but this sort of action was always going to be undertaken as rights holders wish to monetise their on-line content, having folks download something that a rights holder could be paid for millions of times will always seem to them that bread has been stolen from their plate, the reality is of course that those fans hungry for content will revisit a site on multiple occasions and as statistics have shown actually purchase more, most fans cant get enough of their favourite artists material.

how would they stop these sites and tools? if something can be streamed it can be saved to the hard drive... ...in earlier times while watching a youtube vid i would just copy/paste the biggest file out of my browsers cache folder... 9.9 times out of 10 it was the complete video... video stopped and the file in cache disappeared... start a new one.. let it buffer ... rinse repeat......

even earlier times there was this thing called a VCR.. worked wonders... before that, taping music from the radio.. pencil and paper for sheet music... ...why arent they (copyright holders) figuring out that ethereal things cant be a static 'one copy' or 'one use' thing...?

hell a flatbed scanner can mean the beginning of a generous artists career or the downfall of a publishing company...

There are a lot of plugins that enable you to just click to download videos right on the youtube page too. Extensions for Firefox and even Chrome provided by Googles own web store lol

Google has become so big they don't even know what the other arms of their business are doing.
