stalling downloads

i have been having problems with stalling downloads, but not uploads.
i am primary dsl p4 2.4 mhz 1 g ram xp sp2.

this may be a coincidence but i have tried it several times and it seemed to work every time.

what i do is this:
choose a song to download
wait for it to start downloading, if it stalls out, i go to networks and switch to secondary and after 10 seconds switch back to primary.  i go and check my download and it [in most cases] has returned to a good download rate [ 17 to 20 k].
 could someone else try this?
i would like to confirm that it is not coincidence or head noises [lol]

This sounds like the disconnection and reconnection is causing your Winmx to start over, and if the same dwindle to nothing speeds occurs again.. well this makes me think its your ISP.. not sure thos as usually its the Cable companies that do this.. who is your ISP?
Do the speeds stay steady?

our isp is ontera dsl telephone on bell lines
Ontera is not known for playing around with filters and throttles
they are full uncapped service
Ontera is a small outfit and competing with the big boys, so they gain their customers thru service and no capping etc.

my speeds averaged between 6 and 27 k after i bumped it and remained in those ranges
i cleared up some of my incompletes backlog last nite
I got more downloads last nite than i have in the previous three weeks total
this was a pleasant surprise
it dropped off during the evening once and i did the bump and it worked fine for the rest of the evening  :roll:
